Work Methods Specialist

**The Opportunity**:
The City of Red Deer is currently recruiting for a **Work Methods Specialist - Electric Utility**. The Work Methods Specialist is responsible for researching and developing procedures and field training to ensure the work procedures reflect industry best practices, standards and legislative requirements. This includes observing crews, identifying gaps, creating/updating safe work practices as well as, identifying innovative approaches, new tools and equipment to facilitate the completion of work in an efficient and safe manner. The Method’s Specialist will be responsible for developing, executing, tracking, and documenting the safety and training activities of EL&P personnel to ensure competencies are maintained.
- Valid Journeyperson Powerline Technician Certificate.
- Minimum of 6 years working experience as a Journeyperson PLT in Distribution.
- Valid class 5 Driver’s License.
- SCO (Safety Codes Officer) or ability to obtain credentials.
- Strong understanding of Distribution power systems and how work is performed in the field.
- Ability to communicate effectively with field crews, discuss safety issues and facilitate the safest way to perform work.
- Ability to network with other utilities and / or vendors to research industry best practices.
- A thorough understanding of the risks involved in performing utility work, coupled with a practical approach to controlling hazards and ensuring crew safety.
- Ability to develop written training material to reinforce key principles.
- Ability to teach and present to technical employees.
- Ability to summarize training and tooling requirements for management, enabling them to make and facilitate budget and purchasing decisions.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software including Outlook, Word, Excel, and Power Point.

**Remuneration**:
$66.31 to $69.07 per hour (As per the IBEW Local 254 Collective Agreement)
**Hours of Work**:
80 hours biweekly; Monday to Friday; some evening and weekend work may be required when needed.
