**Job Overview**

Reporting to the Desing Manager, as the **EWP I-Joist Design Team Lead** you are responsible for creating the structural framework that support roofs, ceilings, and walls in buildings in a design and manufacturing environment.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

- Mentoring, collaborating and assisting the corresponding i-joist team-members with general design questions, guidance with design software and general troubleshooting.
- Managing design work schedule to ensure jobs are completed on time.
- Creating computer models using computer-aided design (CAD) software with mínimal supervision.
- Reviewing and interpreting customer-supplied documents, such as blueprints or drawings, to identify if any areas require clarification**.**:

- Completing fabrication ready designs for residential and commercial structures.
- Implementing design changes and communicating with other related departments to ensure designs are accurate and consistent.
- Reviewing constructability of the projects and identifying opportunities for value engineering.
- Preparing fabrication package for production department, and site packages for installers.
- Developing optimized customer standard models that are cost effective, shop efficient and framer friendly.
- Meeting with clients to discuss project details and design specifications.
- Providing support to other projects or duties as assigned.
- Recommending process improvements.
- Promoting a safe work environment and ensure compliance with Qualico’s Safety Program, policies and procedures.

**Essential Requirements**
- Post-secondary education or technical training courses in Engineering, Architecture or Drafting.
- Related construction industry experience and an understanding of wood frame construction practices.
- Minimum 5-years of truss or joist design experience in the EWP industry.
- Knowledge of building codes, construction methods, design principles, and building materials.
- Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle.
- Satisfactory verification of criminal record check.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office programs (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint), drafting and industry design software (Mitek) or similar.

**Work Conditions**

You primarily work on site during regular business hours. Work has exposure to noise from equipment/machinery and occupational hazards. Travel to sites and overtime may occasionally be required.
