**ROLE OVERVIEW**

Under the direction of the Supervisor, Environmental Services, the Environmental Service Worker supports patient care through the maintenance of a clean, safe and well-organized environment, the maintenance of supplies and equipment.

**This is a part time, no rotation position. Must be able to work an average 2 to 3 shifts/week, including shift patterns, weekends, and holidays.**

**QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS**

**_Required_**
- Minimum grade 12 education
- Previous experience working in a institutional environment required
- Capable of learning new techniques, policies and procedures
- Ability to communicate effectively with all clients including patients and families
- See Physical Demands Analysis for specific physical requirements
- Knowledge of WHMIS, CQI, and Sanitation Codes/Hygiene.
- Ability to concentrate for long periods of time while completing data entry
- Walking and standing for prolonged periods of time.
- Able to lift up to 25 lbs.
- Able to push heavy carts (linen, garbage, cleaning carts) and move furniture
- Repetitive arm and hand movements.
- Ability to work with various cleaning agents
- Ability to work in a hot environment and possibly outdoors
- Perform duties according to necessary safety precautions/procedures to prevent possible exposure to disease, infection, chemical, physical and mechanical hazards
- Able to work independently as well as a team member
- Follows safe and healthy work practices and maintains a safe and healthy work environment through attendance at educational programs, training in Smart Moves program, use of established reporting mechanisms for injuries, illness and hazards and adherence to health and safety related policies and procedures

**EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS**

Successful applicants are required provide a satisfactory vulnerable sector criminal reference check, that was complete less than one year from the date of hire. This requirement must be met within the first sixty (60) days of employment.

Additionally, to the above, successful applicants are also required to complete the Health Care Worker Health review process which includes providing an up-to-date immunization record to ensure compliance with the Ontario Hospital Association Communicable Diseases Surveillance Protocols within the first thirty (30) days of employment. Northumberland Hills Hospital operates a mandatory COVID-19 vaccination policy for all staff.
