Coordinator, Ocean Wise Shoreline Cleanup

**ROLE OVERVIEW**
- Reporting to the Manager of the Ocean Wise Shoreline Cleanup (OWSC) program, the Coordinator will work as part of the Shoreline Cleanup and Plastics team to support, grow and strengthen the program and the impact of our Plastics initiative as a whole, working towards our goal of radically reducing macro and micro plastic pollution. The Coordinator’s responsibilities will include volunteer and partner outreach, _planning and hosting cleanups, _data collection and analysis, and internal and external communication. _This is a full-time position, based in Vancouver, Canada._
**About the Shoreline Cleanup Program**
The Ocean Wise Shoreline Cleanup has been running in one form or another since 1994. Every year we engage thousands of volunteers across Canada to cleanup their local community and collect data that helps us stop plastic at its source. Since the program began, there have been 30,542 cleanups that have collected more than 2.1 million kg of trash across Canada’s shorelines.
Addressing ocean plastic pollution is a job that will require governments, everyday citizens, businesses and not-for profits. We can only address this critical issue by working together. The OWSC is now recognized as one of the largest direct action conservation programs in Canada. Ocean Wise is committed to growing the program to achieve our mission: to stop plastic pollution
**KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES**
**Expand awareness of Ocean Wise Shoreline Cleanup and grow participation by**:
- Completing outreach activities to inspire and empower both individuals and groups to join us in completing cleanups
- Building and maintaining positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including but not limited to Schools, Community Groups, NGO's & Businesses
- Promoting participation in Shoreline Cleanups through networking & event attendance
- Planning and coordinating local cleanup events, responding to volunteer queries, completing data entry
- Training and coordinating summer educators and volunteers, and other short term positions
**Assists with the overall success of Shoreline Cleanup and supports administration of the program throughout Canada by**
- Contributing to the OWSC strategy and work plan;
- Collaborating on the development of new projects and supporting successful activation
- Supporting program evaluation and tracking progress against our targets and objectives
- Assisting with on-going maintenance and management of program assets
- Maintaining program records and resources including but not limited to calendars, landscape analysis, policy, and stakeholder map
**Assists with program communications by**:
- Collaborating with coms specialist to create engaging content
- Managing content submissions from volunteers
- Planning, promoting and executing webinars, with internal and external partners
**Consciously desires to improve the overall organization and its processes by**:
- Continually improving our impact and performance against both Plastic Free Oceans and wider conservation strategy targets
- Maintaining and supporting organizational safety standards
- Abiding by all organizational policies and procedures
- Providing constructive feedback and performing required self-evaluations
- Performing other duties of a similar nature or level
**QUALIFICATIONS**
**Education and Experience**
- 1+ years’ experience in community outreach, environmental stewardship and/or volunteer management
- Post-secondary education University or College Degree in environmental science, community development or related field of study an asset
- Experience leading volunteer events
- Has a valid driver’s licence and regular access to a vehicle
**Skills**
- Passionate about tackling the plastic pollution problem and an interest in building an understanding, being part of the solution
- Effective relationship builder, with strong customer service skills, who excels engaging and inspiring others
- Professional oral and written communication skills, including excellent public speaking skills
- Excellent computer skills and expertise in Microsoft Office products
- Excellent time management and organisational skills with the ability to meet deadlines and remain calm under pressure
- Problem solving mindset and ability to learn new skills very quickly
- Proven ability to work effectively in a team and independently
- Bilingualism (English and French) preferred
**Working Conditions**:
- 37.5 hours a week
- This is a position based in Vancouver, Canada. You can work remotely when no hosted events are planned. If preferred, you will also be able to work at Ocean Wise’s headquarters at 440 Cambie Street
- Flexible working hours and schedule possible. Some weekend and evening work required. The high season is during the summertime so holidays might be limited during this period (but can be discussed if possible)
