**MEMENGWAA OVERNIGHT SUPPORT WORKER**

**Position Title**: Memengwaa Overnight Support Part Time Contract

**Hours of Work**:Flexible (16 hours per week - 10pm-6am) 2 days on, 4 days off work rotation

**Contract End Date**: March 31, 2026 with possibility of extension

**Salary**: $16.87/hr

**Position Summary**

The Memengwaa Overnight Support Worker will provide on-site overnight point of contact for the Memengwaa Building in the event of serious incidents or emergency. The Memengwaa Overnight Support is primarily a sleep position and conducts periodic building safety and security checks. These services are offered within the organization’s Anishinabe Health and Wellness Framework.

**Key Responsibilities/Duties**

To work from a holistic perspective, utilizing the teachings of the medicine wheel and Seven Grandfather Teachings.

To utilize Elders for teachings, healing and guidance.

To take personal responsibility to increase sensitivity, awareness and implementation of Beendigen’s cultural teachings and organizational practices in both professional conduct and work-related deliverables.

To be prepared to work in conjunction with the philosophy and mandate of the agency.

To preserve confidentiality of all residents, clients, staff, students, volunteers and agency information.

To represent the agency in a positive and professional manner at all times.

To be completely familiar with the location and operation of all safety equipment emergency exits and written emergency procedures.

To be completely familiar with fire drill procedures and be prepared to respond in a case of emergency.

To be acquainted with each person’s binders, and in particular, with a person’s progress notes.

To ensure the safety and well-being of persons through periodic checks throughout the respective shift.

To assist with the settling-in of new residents when needed.

To complete daily shift check list and record all unexpected incidents in the communication database and follow all agency procedures.

To ensure that all worker bedding is laundered/stored away each morning.

To perform general light housekeeping duties, this may include laundry, dusting and disinfecting.

To be a role model for residents by maintaining a neat and sanitary environment at all times.

To constructively participate in all team meetings, seminars and staff training sessions as required.

To ensure Health and Safety compliance in the workplace by following policies, procedures and best practices and reporting any unsafe environments.

To follow confidential handling of client information as dictated by Privacy Legislation.

To adhere to program best practices and policies and procedures.

To perform other related duties as assigned by the Operations Manager.

Any other duties as requested by the Operations Manager; commensurate with role.

**Key Selection Criteria**

**Required**:
Social Services education with relevant front-line experience.

Demonstrated experience providing services to Anishinabe women.

Knowledge of Anishinabe culture, tradition, language and Anishinabe community.

Demonstrated commitment to the Violence Against Women sector.

**Preferred**:
Social Services Diploma or comparable diploma with relevant experience.

Experience working in an Indigenous organization.

Ability to speak Ojibway, Oji-Cree or Cree.

**Knowledge, Skills and Abilities**:
Ability to view situations free from personal values, interests, beliefs, or judgment.

Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Ability to work independently, demonstrating initiative, with limited supervision.

Knowledge about sensitivity to cultural differences and various economic backgrounds.

Ability to act quickly and appropriately in situations of conflict in a direct, nonconfrontational way.

Strong interpersonal skills.

**Working Conditions**

The Memengwaa Overnight Support usually works in a residential home setting, but the mission of the organization may sometimes take them to non-standard workplaces.

Hours of work are flexible, 16 hours per week, 10pm to 6am with 2 days on and 4 days off work rotation.
- Must provide a successful Police Vulnerable Sector Check PVSC
- Must be willing to work shift work, including weekends and holidays
- Must be willing to work flexible hours of work (16hrs/wk)
- Must have a valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s license, use of an automobile and appropriate insurance coverage is required
- Must provide proof of full Covid-19 vaccination or medical exemption
- Must sign Oath of Confidentiality
- Must have First Aid Certification
