**How You’ll Spend Your Time**

As **EAL Tutor Coordinator**, with IRSA PEI, as a member of the Community Engagement team, your primary area of focus will be recruiting, training and supporting, viable volunteer English tutors, while matching them with ideal fit newcomer English learner clients.

As a secondary focus, you will be supporting the Community Engagement team, and assisting in the delivery and execution of programming including, Community Connections, Seasonal/Group Activities, Programming and IRSA Annual events, with the goal of newcomer’s successful integration into the local community.

This role collaborates across departments to build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to promote IRSA’s vision, mission and core values.

**Responsibilities**:

- Oversees all EAL tutor training sessions and online tutor training.
- Recruits, schedules, and supports the EAL tutor group by providing resources, check-ins and mediation if required.
- Ensures all proper tutor screening during the recruiting phase is complete, in conjunction with the Volunteer Coordinator.
- Matches the right tutor with registered prospective learners via the right learning plan (eg: one on one sessions and conversation circles)
- Obtains, reviews and responds to tutor and client feedback to ensure supports are meeting our clients needs.
- Maintains accurate reporting and records of historical tutor/student matches.
- Assists Volunteer Coordinator with annual appreciation events.
- Partners with the Public Library and other community partners to support the EAL tutor program.
- Plans, Budgets, Tracks and reports expenses for programming for accuracy.
- This role will have a unique and primary focus on retaining and expanding our volunteer tutor pool by driving engagement and support initiatives for sustainability long term.
- Conducts assessments of client strengths and needs.
- Develops and implements appropriate individualized tutor/student learning plans outlining a strategy to achieve success based on identified needs, available services and while helping identify and overcome potential barriers.
- Monitors the ongoing learning plan to ensure clients are on target, and adjusts plans, if necessary, to meet client needs as they arise.
- Acts as strong client advocate, refers clients/volunteers to internal and external support programs and services, including navigation of government systems, and community resources, as determined through needs assessments.
- Provides supportive para counselling, referrals and information to empower clients to solve and cope with challenges arising from EAL needs in Canada.
- Liaises with community organizations to form partnerships for assisting newcomers with EAL related concerns.
- Provides navigation support and advocacy for individual clients or families who require assistance in accessing language service supports.
- Ensures up to date comprehensive case notes are completed on all client files in a timely manner within IRSA’s client management system.
- Evaluates service program delivery and provides regular reporting for funding partners as instructed.
