Supervisory responsibilities include directing work, training staff and providing assistance and feedback to lifeguards and electronic timing operators.

Technical responsibilities include the understanding and operations of pool chemistry and filtration systems, as well as basic operations of other technical equipment (i.e. sound system, bulkhead, safety and first aid equipment, electronic timing system, underwater vacuums).

Administrative responsibilities include payroll, bather statistics preparation, and several computerized functions. Pools supervisors are responsible for customer service/inquiries, opening and closing procedures, compliance by all users to Ministry of Health Regulations for swimming pools, and university/faculty policies and procedures. Other duties as assigned.

**Minimum Education**:
**Qualifications**:Some University education preferred. Preference given to U of T students.

**Experience**:
Prior work as a lifeguard where thorough knowledge of pool policies and procedures including emergency procedures has been demonstrated. Consistent reliability and professionalism is required. Past supervisory experience is an asset.

**Certifications**:
Required

1. National Lifeguard - Pool (LSS) certification current within two years of issue required
2. CPR-C (SJA, RC or LSS) current within one year of issue required. **Course offered upon hire.**
3. Standard First Aid (SJA, RC or LSS) current within three years of issue required
4. Airway Management or Oxygen Administration (LSS or RC) current within two years of issue required. **Course offered upon hire.**

Certifications must be valid through **position end date**. Proof of registration in a recertification course scheduled before the certification’s expiry will be accepted in lieu of above.

Assets
- Canadian Red Cross (CRC) Water Safety Instructor
- Lifesaving Society (LSS) Swim and/or Lifesaving and Emergency First Aid Instructor
- CRC or LSS Standard First Aid Instructor/Examiner, LSS NL-Pool Instructor/Examiner

**Skills**:
Must attend interview, screening / orientation day (lifeguarding, first aid and CPR skills) demonstrating excellence in exceeding minimum standards of the Lifesaving Society and other certifying organizations.

Demonstration of strong leadership skills, basic computer skills, ability to multitask, excellent communications skills (both oral and written), ability to deal well in conflict situations, skills of tact and diplomacy.

**Other**:
Employment is conditional upon providing proof of Hepatitis B vaccination and a current Name Based Criminal Records Check (completed no more than 1 year ago).
