**What You Will Do**:
The Resource & Information (R&I) Employment Specialist provides outstanding service to clients in their independent job search. The R&I Employment Specialist offers in-depth information on job search processes and resume development. They provide job search tools through information sessions, workshops, and one
- on-one.
The Resource & Information Employment Specialist is knowledgeable about the community, its businesses and services, and is up to date on what is influencing the local labour market. They are specialists in the development and design of impactful resumes, cover letters, and interview skills.
This is a position that requires a professional, caring and inclusive attitude; strict adherence to the YMCA’s values is imperative.
**Specific Responsibilities Include**:
- Demonstrate strong support and commitment to the mission, core values, and serving the program participants of the YMCA
- Receives client referrals and conduct preliminary screening to determine service needs and provide information on additional programs such as Apprenticeships and Second Career
- Contact clients and schedule appointments with Case Managers
- Maintain updated knowledge of local, regional and broader labour market information, and how to access in-depth information as required
- Develop and maintain knowledge about local employers, their business, and what they look for in new employees
- Identify and develop tools to help customers understand the changing labour market and its impact on the job search process
- Provide support and counsel clients in career planning, labour market information, and job search techniques
- Assist in the development of resumes, cover letters, and interview skills
- Develop and conduct job search/employment related workshops and information sessions, and other workshops as needed, for both job seekers and the employer community
- Provide information and training to clients on using the Magnet system to create a profile and access local jobs
- Maintain the resource area and ensure resources and job boards are current; both in the centre and online
**REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS**:
Reports to the Employment Services Manager
**WORKING CONDITIONS**:
- Requirement of Standard First Aid and CPR
- Clear Vulnerable Sector check
**EDUCATION/TRAINING/QUALIFICATIONS**:
- Minimum college level diploma in administration, adult education and training, social sciences, or related field preferred
- Class G license and access to a vehicle
- Trained in Motivational Interviewing techniques and Bridges out of Poverty philosophies
- Proficient in Outlook, MS Word, Power Point, Excel, the internet and comfortable with new and evolving technologies and social media
- Strong communication skills both verbal and written
- Demonstrated in-depth knowledge of the job search process, including new and evolving methods of self-promotion used by job seekers
- Knowledge of major online job information and career guidance sources for all major industries and vocations
- Ability to meet deadlines, problem solve and manage crisis situations
- Self-motivated and a strong team player; be able to work independently while maintaining team cohesion
- Demonstration of proficiency with CaMS (Case Management Solution) or other system, which supports the delivery of client and employer information, is an asset
- Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times
**EXPERIENCE**:
- Experience working in an environment where service is being provided to the public, and experience delivering outstanding customer service
- Experience in workshop development and facilitation
