**Job Title: Member Support Staff**

**Report To**: Executive Director

**Duties of Job**:

- Support Member Support and Program Manager in program and activity delivery
- Developing relationships with members and support member needs
- Promote and facilitate a safe and therapeutic environment for the provision of services
- Supporting leadership within the program for quality and risk management
- Assist with writing monthly summaries of programs, participation and results
- Encourage member's participation as volunteers
- Support MSP Manager in developing formal and informal volunteer opportunities: hours expected, description of duties, follow through of responsibilities.
- Organize and encourage/motivate member participation for special events
- Work with members to develop and assess program duties on an ongoing basis
- Encourage and motivate members to:

- Make healthy lifestyle choices
- Participate in programs
- Participate in committees, and other duties
- Develop a sense of ownership of and responsibility to the program
- Provide leadership, guidance, support, and assistance to all members, consistent with the overall goals of the organization
- Help resolve any conflicts that may arise between members and/or staff.
- Work collaboratively with the Comox Valley Mental Health & Substance Use Services (CVMHSUS)
- Be sensitive to the individual needs of program members to allow them the optimal use of the programs offered
- Foster supportive, respectful and effective communication and work relationships amongst members, board, and staff
- Identify any training needs of staff/members
- In conjunction, with the ED and the Board of Directors, provide discipline to Society staff, if required
- Other duties as they arise

**Required Qualifications**:

- Knowledge of mental illness and sensitivity to the needs of those living with mental illness
- Experience in mental health field Exceptional organization skills Strong, proven leadership skills
- Must be able to work collaboratively
- Calm demeanor and ability to adapt in various circumstances.
- Emergency First Aid and CPR ASIST

**Preferred Qualifications**:

- Human Service Worker Diploma - a minimum of a two year college/university program in the social or health services field and/or equivalent experience/education
- Valid Class 5 BC Driver's License
- Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training

**Job Type**: Part-time
Part-time hours: 12 per week

**Salary**: $18.00-$22.00 per hour

- 4 hour shift
- Day shift
- Monday to Friday

- Courtenay, BC: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)

- community service: 1 year (preferred)
