The Department of Information Technology Application Services delivers an enablement and support role within Unity Health Toronto. It pursues a cooperative and collaborative approach with both management and staff to deploy information technology and systems that support research, education, administrative and clinical operations. The department supports the strategic goal and Continuous Quality Improvement as directed in Unity Health’s Strategic Plan.

The department is responsible for the following:

- Customization and implementation of commercially available software
- Interfacing with Hospital departments including Research, Education and Clinical units to understand departmental requirements and to prepare recommendations to fulfill those requirements
- Requirement gathering, documentation of workflows and technology processes
- Providing operation, maintenance and support of existing systems on a 24 hour per day, 7 day per week basis
- Assisting Hospital departments in modifying processes to facilitate the collection and use of data and information
- Ensuring that appropriate technological controls are in place to support complete information security and patient/employee confidentiality
- Assisting management with the interpretation of available information
- Facilitating continuous quality improvement activities

**DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Responsible for designing, planning and implementing complex system changes impacting systems across all Unity Health environments
- Develops queries and reports to enhance or supplement business unit access to information using various reporting tools i.e., MS Access, SQL Server or Crystal Reports
- Designs and develops data extracts using extract transform load tools (ETL), e.g., MS SSIS or MS SQL DTS
- Serves as a liaison and a point of accountability between Information/Communications Technology and Business departments
- Prepares comprehensive and accurate documentation regarding system configuration, specifications, and technical processes
- Meets with decision makers, systems owners, and end users to define business, financial, and operations requirements and systems goals, and identify and resolve systems issues
- Maintains system security access, to facilitate ease of information access of users
- Provides user training, as required
- Provides specialized technical expertise for the installation, patching, tuning, upgrading and maintenance of single and integrated modular business systems, including unique/specialized software and hardware
- Understands the behavior of software in order to deploy and troubleshoot problems; generally should be good at several programming languages used for scripting or automation of routine tasks
- Defines, implements and tests backup and disaster recovery plans
- Participates in Request for Information (RFI’s) and/or Request for Proposals (RFP’s), as required and/or plays a role in the acquisition, possible customization, and implementation of commercially available software
- Mentors and supports colleagues and peers to take on additional responsibilities
- Participates in 24x7 on-call support services. The hours for this position will be flexible to cover planned or unplanned events, which may include weekends, after hours and holidays.
- Required to work at all Unity Health Sites as needed

**QUALIFICATIONS**:

- Bachelor Degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, Business or other related field from an accredited post-secondary institution and/or five or more years’ equivalent experience
- Minimum four (4) years related experience
- Minimum of 3 years of health care experience or equivalent
- Minimum of 3 years of experience with database technologies (e.g, Oracle), methods to communicate to the database (e.g., T-SQL, PL-SQL), as well as, business intelligence tools (e.g., Crystal Reports)
- Experience supporting Admission, Discharge, Transfer systems considered an asset
- General knowledge of Java/JEE,.NET Programming and frameworks
- Experience with Windows Active Directory
- Knowledge of IT best practices
- Commitment to continuous professional learning to keep up to date with technological advancement
- Demonstrated innovation and creativity with solutions
- Demonstrated proficiency in business case planning and presentations
