Cultural Program Coordinator

**POSITION OVERVIEW**
Reporting to the Culture Integration Team Leader, the Culture Program Coordinator is responsible for developing, implementing, and coordinating programs and services specifically designed for the nłeʔkepmx and syilx children, young people, and families residing in the Nicola Valley. This includes determining culturally relevant program needs by engaging with children, young people, families, and our five Member communities; supporting the implementation of nłeʔkepmx and syilx cultural practices into all aspects of programming; cultural case planning; and preserving family and culture with the support of Resident Elders.
As a member of the SCFSS organization, the Culture Program Coordinator is committed to the collective response to the Call to Action through the four Strategic Directions and supports a pathway of change to exercise nłeʔkepmx and syilx inherent rights. In particular, the Culture Program Coordinator champions core elements of the strategic goals of ‘Culture of Caring’ and ‘Protection and Prevention’.
**OVERVIEW OF DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Plan and coordinate cultural programs and events with the integration of syilx and nłeʔkepmx ways of knowing into all aspects of programming, interaction, and planning.
- Collaborate and coordinate services with community resources; increase collaborations between community agencies/entities in proactive efforts to preserve family and cultural traditions.
- Confirm core cultural standards of language, identity, land-based, and traditional teachings are reflected within the SCFSS Strategic Plan, documentation/forms, policies, procedures, and processes.
- Implement routine consultation with Resident Elders for services and programming support.
- Ensure practices are culturally safe, reflective of intergenerational impacts, and trauma-informed practice in alignment with syilx and nłeʔkepmx culture and traditions.
- Ensure regular reporting requirements are met to the Culture and Language Team Leader, funding bodies, and appropriate agencies to produce appropriate documentation.
- Develop, monitor, and update an annual Personal Development Plan aligned with SCFSS’s strategic priorities in the Strategic Plan.
- Integrate the nłeʔkepmx Framework of Practice and the syilx Child and Family Plan in cultural services.
- Ensure compliance with OH&S policies and procedures
- Develop and maintain a Personal Development Plan and Individual Work Plan
- Recruit, train, and oversee volunteers for events such as Feel the Beat
**JOB REQUIREMENTS**
- Clear Criminal Record check prior to starting employment.
- Clear Ministry of Child and Family Development Prior Contact Check prior to starting employment.
- Valid Class 5 BC driver’s license without restrictions.
- Proven experience in the management and development of teams, with a leadership style that is collaborative, cultural, strategic, and innovative.
- Experience in designing, managing, and delivering cultural or language programs, with strong analytical skills to handle qualitative and quantitative data.
**EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE**
- Diploma in event management, project management, Indigenous studies or other related field or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Minimum of three years of experience working with Indigenous families and communities.
- Minimum of three years of progressive experience with community programming and event planning
- Experience at an Indigenous organization is an asset.
**MINIMUM REQUIRED COMPETENCIES**
- Indigenous Knowledge: Speaks nłeʔkepmxcin and/or syilx at a beginner to intermediate level, or is committed to learn the language(s) within a designated timeframe
- Communication: Proven record of strong organizational and excellent communication skills; including applied skills in planning, developing, coordinating, and facilitating groups; demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality, diplomacy, and objectivity when communicating and interacting with Elders, colleagues, leaders, children, families, and communities; ability to effectively interface with all levels of community and staff, from entry-level to senior management; ability to create an environment where open, honest communication is valued and supports the development of strong, cooperative relationships
- Motivation: Ability to work both independently and collaboratively under mínimal supervision while conducting research and assessments
- Time Management: Efficient work skills with the ability to meet time-sensitive deadlines with attention to detail and high-quality standards;
