Under the general guidance of the Project Leader - Solutions Design, Innovation and Technology, the Information System Support Specialist assumes the responsibility for independently undertaking small projects or participates with the Project Leader - Solutions Design on medium to large scale projects. This includes developing and implementing the information systems required by other operating divisions of the Transit Department to provide effective, efficient and continuously improved transit service to the public. The Support Specialist is accountable for the independent maintenance, support and operation of medium to large-scale information systems critical to the operation of the department.

**As the **Information Systems Support Specialist, you will**:

- Provide maintenance and operational support for the department’s IT infrastructure including host systems, servers, and the department network
- Perform ad-hoc data analysis as required by the operating divisions of the department when specific needs cannot be met by existing information systems and/or end-user computing tools
- Perform the systems design and analysis necessary for the specifications of new or enhanced information systems
- Supervise assigned junior programmers on development and support projects
- Participate in the research and development activities of the IT Division.

**Your education and qualifications include**:

- A university degree or community college diploma related to Software Engineering or Computer Science, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Ability to analyze business requirements and to design and develop a solution to meet business requirements.
- Analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to exercise initiative and sound judgment in fast paced, and often, stressful conditions
- Ability to quickly and independently learn and adapt to a changing technological development and operating environment.
- Ability to provide technical guidance and mentor junior staff.
- Effective interpersonal skills and an ability to maintain an effective working relationship with all levels of personnel within the organization, as well as with outside contacts.
- Experience working with embedded systems and device integration would be an asset.
- Experience working with embedded C/C++, python, and frameworks like QT would be an asset.
- Experience with on-premises or cloud IoT projects would be an asset.
- Knowledge and experience with radio communication systems would be an asset.
