Compensation Range
$41.13 - $59.12 CAD Hourly

The midpoint of the range is approximately halfway between the minimum and the maximum and represents an employee that possesses full job knowledge, qualifications and experience for the position. In the normal course, employees will be hired, transferred or promoted between the minimum and midpoint of the salary range for a job.

Job Summary
The incumbent will be responsible for planning and executing research projects in mental illness and criminal justice, providing training to student employees and research assistants, as well as setting priorities to support the goal of the sponsoring research group.
Organizational Status
The Research Coordinator will report to PI, Dr. Tonia Nicholls, at the Forensic Psychiatric Hospital. The Research Coordinator will oversee the activities of research assistants, graduate academic and research assistants and interact with medical residents.
Work Performed
Planning and designing individual research projects geared toward mental illness and criminal justice, including priority and goal-setting and budget forecasting
Conducting independent research project as approved by the PI and research collaborators
Utilizing research facilitation expertise to supervise the work of and act as mentor to research assistants and student employees
Communicating with medical residents to advance ongoing research projects
Identifying research synergies and creating opportunities for new avenues of research to build on and extend the goals of the sponsoring research group.
Performing other related duties as required.
Consequence of Error/Judgement
The Research Coordinator is required to conduct all research activities in an ethical manner. Patient confidentiality must be respected when dealing with research data. Any errors in assessments, collation of data, analysis or recommendation could result in unreliable reporting, which could impact the credibility of the PI and research team.
Supervision Received
The Research Coordinator is expected to conduct research projects independently and will consult with the PI as the need arises.
Supervision Given
The Research Coordinator will train and supervise the work of approximately 12 research assistants and student employees.
Minimum Qualifications
Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline. Minimum of three years of related experience, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications
Applicants must have a graduate degree and training in the field relating to mental health and/or criminal justice research.
Knowledge of and experience in writing research grant proposal, protocols, work plan and scientific papers preferred/desired.
Knowledge of University policies, procedures, governance and research systems preferred.
Knowledge of BC government organizations related to health and knowledge of health‐related organizations in Canada and globally is highly desirable.
Effective organizational, problem‐solving, planning and analytical skills.
Effective oral and written communication, organization, interpersonal and supervisory skills.
Prior experience with structured project management of large-scale projects
