**Title**: Employer Engagement Specialist (designated for African Nova Scotians)

**Position Status**: Full-Time

**Salary**: $53,000 - $55,000 per year

**Location**: Wilfred Jackson Way and Wyse Road location

The YMCA Nova Scotia Works Employment Services Centres is looking for a dynamic individual and connector of people to join our team as Employer Engagement Specialist with our Nova Scotia Works Career Service Centre in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia.

Since 1853 the YMCA of Greater Halifax/Dartmouth has been connecting Nova Scotians to build healthy communities. As a non-profit charity we provide vital services, including Health, Employment, Childcare/Camps, Immigrant Services, and Youth Development.

**The Opportunity**

With funding from Employment Nova Scotia, the YMCA Nova Scotia Works Employment Services Centres deliver a comprehensive service to assist individuals with finding employment and assist employers with their human resource needs. We provide case management, employment assessments, needs determinations, job development and workshops, as well as linking clients to appropriate employment opportunities and community resources.

**Responsibilities**
- Assist employers with their human resource needs, with the focus of creating safe workspaces for African Nova Scotians
- Help employers access government-funded programs and resources
- Work with service providers and industry sectors to development working relationships to address underrepresentation in the workplaceDevelop and implement community engagement initiatives that promote employment opportunities
- Partner and collaborate with African Nova Scotian organizations and agencies to develop initiatives and employment opportunities for African Nova Scotians
- Work collaboratively with NS Works team for case conferencing that leads to client’s successful attachment to the workplace
- Complete job-specific training within the required timeframes as per our funding agreement
- Other duties that support NS Works outcomes as assigned by the Directors

**Qualifications & Skills**
- Post-secondary education in Human Service field or related field of study or a combination of education and work-related experience
- Demonstrated experience advocating for justice, equity, accessibility, diversity and inclusion
- Strong connection and working relationships with the African Nova Scotian communities
- Experienced with equitable human resource practices
- Demonstrated ability to work with unemployed persons who face barriers to finding and maintaining employment
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong interpersonal skills including tact, diplomacy, and ability to establish rapport
- Demonstrated ability to display sensitivity, managing expectations and diplomacy for internal and external contacts
- Excellent verbal, written communication skills, including presentation/ facilitation skills
- Valid Nova Scotia Driver’s License or access to reliable transportation

**Conditions of Employment**
- Clear Child Abuse Register Check
- Current and satisfactory Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check (must be dated less than 6 months from hire date)
- Completion of YMCA’s Child Safety & Protection Orientation within first week of employment
- Completion of YMCA Child Safeguarding Training within probationary period
- Valid First Aid and CPR certificate if required for the role
