Reporting to the Patient Flow Supervisor, the Personal Support Worker will assist with patient needs under the direction of a Registered staff member on duty. This position operates out of the Alternative Level of Care Facility at Amberwood Suites, in partnership with Health Sciences North.
- **In addition to the hourly rate, we offer a $2.00 per hour wage enhancement for working within the Alternate Health Unit.**_

**Requirements**:

- Personal Support Worker Certificate as endorsed by Ministry of Training Colleges and Universities is required.
- Current Basic Cardiac Life Support Certificate / First Aid-CPR is required.
- Ministry of Labour “Worker Health and Safety Awareness in 4 Steps” training certificate is required
- Satisfactory Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening is required (dated within 6 months of employment start date).
- 2-Step TB testing is required.
- Bilingualism (English/French) is considered an asset.
- N95 Mask Fit Test required.
- Proof of full (2-dose) Covid-19 vaccination is required and updated vaccinations as per Company policy.

**Experience**:

- Minimum of 6 months experience working as a Personal Support Worker in home care, long term care, retirement or hospital setting.
- Experience in geriatrics or gerontology is an asset.
- An understanding of the needs and issues of the older adult is required.

**Knowledge, Skills & Abilities**:

- Demonstrated interpersonal skills.
- Excellent teamwork and effective communication skills.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Capable of working efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work well independently and under pressure.
- Ability to work with and maintain confidential information.
- Strong attention to detail is required.
- High interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Must be able to work 12-hour shifts - days, nights and weekends is required.
- Ability to follow directions and guidance provided.
- Willingness to update and keep current their knowledge of changing regulations, practices and procedures is a requirement.
- Demonstrated positive work record and good attendance record.
- Current certification in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) and Gentle Persuasion Approaches to Dementia Care (GPA) are asset
- Experience working with patients with dementia considered an asset.
- Experience in medication administration an asset.

**Position Overview**
- Follow site and Health Sciences North policies, processes, and procedures;
- Provide a high level of patient care by following patient care plans;
- Observe, report, and document any findings or changes in patient condition or behaviour;
- Work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team;
- Assist patients with ambulation when needed;
- Provide assistance moving patients in and out of facility as required;
- Other duties as assigned.
