Launch Master Relief

Starting wage is $57.25/hour (wage during training period, paid at 75%)
- Relief employees receive 16% of gross salary, exclusive of holiday pay and overtime, in lieu of benefits and an additional 6% in lieu of vacation time

- The successful individual must be available on short notice for relief opportunities.
- Responsible to the Chief Technical Officer for the safe operation of the vessel under their command and ensure safe pilot transfers and oversee and direct their crew on board a Pacific Pilotage Authority (PPA) launch and at a launch station.
**Duties**
- Responsible for the conduct and command of launch vessel at all times
- Responsible for ensuring pilot transfers are carried out in the most safe and efficient manner possible
- Responsible for safe operation of launch and compliance with International Regulations for the Prevention of Collisions at Sea, any local navigation regulations or restrictions and the Code of Nautical Practices and procedures
- Supervises and directs deckhand to assist in pilot transfers, vessel cleaning and maintenance, mooring and unmooring, pre-departure and running checking / testing of gear and equipment and as required for operation of launch
- Must maintain communication / contact with dispatch to ensure awareness of all vessels requiring pilot launch service
- Ensure vessel’s man-over-board equipment is functioning properly and crew is competent in performing MOB duties
- Responsible for ensuring vessel is adequately fueled
- Conversant with policies and procedures in the company’s safety management system
- Responsible for general upkeep, condition and appearance of the launch
- Responsible for ensuring all routines, inspections and maintenance are carried out and recorded as per the company requirements and report any deficiencies to the Shore Engineer
- Responsible to ensure the launches are manned with crew with valid certificates and that both the launch master and crew are working within the working hours limits set by Transport Canada
- Responsible for arranging relief crew as required
- Other duties related to the operations of pilot transfers and the maintenance of property and equipment belonging to the PPA
**Requirements**:
- Valid certificates for Master 500 GT Near-Coastal, Marine First Aid Training and Transport Canada Medical required
- As a federal crown corporation, it is a requirement that any employees are fully vaccinated
**Organization**
- A federal Crown Corporation based in downtown Vancouver, the Pacific Pilotage Authority (PPA) provides safe and efficient marine pilotage services in the coastal waters of British Columbia, including the Fraser River.
