**Role Description**: Reporting to the Committee Chair, the Committee Member plays an essential role as an advisor and developer within the committee. Responsibilities include providing guidance to the Chair on matters pertaining to policies, strategies, and the governance of all matters of People and Cultural Governance. The People, Talent and Culture Governance Committee plays a critical role in ensuring that the organization's policies and practices related to its workforce and volunteers are aligned with legal requirements, ethical standards, and the overall mission of the organization, as well as efficient governance of the Board itself. Notably, this position is a non-voting one on the Board of Directors. However, active participation on the committee can serve as a stepping stone towards potential advancement to a permanent, voting position on the Board. Those aspiring to serve on a Board for the first time are highly encouraged to apply.
**Responsibilities**:
- Board Governance
- Participate in the recruitment, selection, and evaluation of key executive positions within the organization.
- Assist the Chair in the recruitment, orientation, and ongoing development of board members.
- Develop a comprehensive competency matrix of Board’s roles and conduct regular assessments of the Board's composition, skills, and effectiveness.
- Advise on and establish the creation of succession plans for critical roles within the organization, ensuring a strategic approach to maintaining leadership continuity across all levels.This strategic approach will ensure readiness for leadership changes, encompassing both staff and board levels, and maintain operational continuity.
- People, Talent & Culture Management
- Collaborate with the committee to develop and implement strategic People, Talent and Culture plans aligned with the YRA's overall goals and mission.
- Ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and ethical standards related to human resources and governance matters. Advise the YRA Board on best practices and recommend updates to policies and procedures.
- Work closely with the committee and staff to develop and execute effective recruitment, retention and recognition strategies. This includes ensuring that the processes of job postings, interviewing, and employee/volunteer onboarding are aligned with YRA’s mission, purpose and objectives.
- Implement and uphold performance management systems designed to evaluate and enhance the performance of employees and volunteers. Work closely with the committee to develop equitable and transparent processes for measuring organizational performance, ensuring a consistent evaluation framework.
- Help develop and monitor frameworks to address and resolve employee concerns, conflicts, and grievances promptly and impartially.
- Monitor the organization's compliance with relevant laws and regulations related to people and culture governance. Advise the committee on legal matters related to human resources.
- Facilitate effective communication between the Board, management, and employees on talent and cultural matters. Provide regular updates to the Board on people-related initiatives and issues.
- Work closely with the Finance Committee to review and recommend changes to the employee compensation
