**ABOUT ADVENT HEALTH**
Advent Health Care is a not-for-profit, charitable organization affiliated with the Seventh-day Adventist Church and is led by a volunteer board of directors. Advent Health Care currently serves the needs of the community with the operation of Valleyview Residence, a 174-bed long-term care home and Forestview Retirement Residence, an a 128-suite independent and assisted-living residence.
**ACCOUNTABILITY OBJECTIVE**
Under the direction of the Dinning Services Manager employees in this class are responsible and accountable for assisting in food preparation. Cook I or II will be expected to assist in preparing all meals, maintain cleanliness, and observe special dietary requirements for residents.
**BACKGROUND/QUALIFICATIONS**
- Knowledge of principles and quantity cooking is required.
- Experience in quantity cooking of vegetables, meat, fish and poultry, baked goods, etc.
- The ability to utilize standardized metric recipes and acceptable knowledge of food service sanitation standards, personal hygiene and safety is also required.
**Education, Training and Experience**
A minimum of two years' experience and in-service training as a Cook in kitchens handling quantity cooking. Applicants who have completed a recognized course in cooking, obtained a Food Handlers' Certificate and possess some experience in supervising staff will be highly considered.
**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Prepares or assists in preparation of complete meals - including but not limited to preparing and cooking soups, meats, gravies, vegetables, desserts, salads, baked goods, etc.
- Acts as assistant to Cook I in preparation and cooking.
- Occasionally responsible for checking supplies and groceries received in work area.
- Assists in serving special diet meals.
- Aides in preparing special nourishment items.
- Assists in the cleaning of kitchen area and general maintenance of equipment.
- Potentially required to prepare complete meal for a small group of people.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
