**Job Overview**
The BC Berry Breeding Program is an applied horticultural research program that operates as a collaboration between Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC) and the industry organizations that represent British Columbian blueberry, raspberry, and strawberry growers, the BC Blueberry Council (BCBC), the Raspberry Industry Development Council (RIDC), and the BC Strawberry Growers' Association (BCSGA). The breeding program is in Agassiz and Abbotsford, utilizing the AAFC greenhouse, screenhouse, laboratory facilities, and agricultural field trial plots. Federal security screening will be required to access the job sites.

**Responsibilities**
- Development and implementation of field management plans in consultation with the breeder and AAFC Farm Crew staff.
- Set up, establishment, and maintenance of field trials using a variety of farm and scientific equipment, including tractors, farm implements, sprayers, and hand tools.
- Assist with propagation and management of greenhouse plants for field trials.
- Install, maintain, and repair irrigation systems as required.
- Utilize hand tools and machinery to perform tasks effectively.
- Conduct regular inspections of systems to identify issues or areas for improvement.
- Perform heavy lifting as required to move equipment and materials.
- Maintain accurate records of work performed and materials used.
- Collaborate with team members to complete projects on time and within specifications.

**M**inimum Qualifications
- Canadian citizenship or permanent residency.
- High school diploma.
- Basic Microsoft Word and Excel skills.
- Class 5 driver's license with ability to travel between job sites Agassiz (approx. 1/2 time) and Abbotsford (approx. 1/2 time).
- Experience driving tractors, using farm implements, and hand tools for the management of field crops
- Physically capable of performing farm labour.
- Basic math skills for measurements and calculations related to installations.
- Strong mechanical knowledge with the ability to troubleshoot issues effectively.
- Excellent communication skills and a strong work ethic are essential.

Preferred:

- Pesticide Applicator Certificate
- Previous experience in farm labour and field management, especially in berry crops.
