**Aftercare Counsellor**

**About the employer**: Maison Decision House (MDH) is a non-profit organization that was founded in 1979. It provides a community-based residential treatment program for adult male offenders, regardless of race and religion, who are returning to the community as a part of their release process. MDH has helped over a thousand individuals make the transition into the community by providing shelter, guidance and counselling.

**About the Aftercare Program**: The MDH Aftercare program is offered to residents who have successfully completed the MDH Intensive Substance Abuse Treatment Program. The Aftercare program consists of twelve individual one-hour weekly counselling sessions utilizing the _Structured Relapse Prevention (SRP)_ model developed by the _Addiction Research Foundation_. Based on the social learning theory, SRP counselling is a cognitive-behavioural approach, designed to enable persons to gain more control over their alcohol or drug use

**Responsibilities**:

- Maintain a caseload of aftercare clients.
- Complete weekly sessions with clients, establishing and working on therapeutic goals and other need areas as outlined by clients.
- Have knowledge and ability to refer clients to various resources available to them in the wider community.
- Write case conference notes detailing the sessions with clients.
- Write final reports following the termination or completion of the aftercare.
- Maintain client confidentiality.

**Desired work experience and education**:

- Must be able to obtain **Reliability Level Security Clearance **with the Federal Government.

**Skills**:

- The ability to understand the dynamics of clients' behaviour and assess their risks and needs.
- The skills to counsel clients, form effective relationships, and gain trust.
- Knowledge and ability to utilize cognitive behavioural therapy and motivational interviewing throughout sessions.
- The ability to intervene and remain calm in crisis situations.
- Effective communication in English both orally and in writing.
- The ability to understand cultural differences.

**Job Type**: Part-time

**Salary**: $15.50-$19.00 per hour

- Bachelor's Degree (preferred)
