Production Planner/buyer

**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**

Establishes delivery schedules of materials in order to meet production requirements, cost effective sourcing of materials, negotiates day to day purchases, production planning, capacity utilization, system data management, report management and continuous improvement.

**SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Maintains critical material information in ERP system (lead-times, pricing, safety stocks, vendor data)
- Placing of purchase orders
- Analyzes, schedule and expedite material according to ERP requirements
- Amends delivery dates as required
- Expedites material deliveries where appropriate
- Analysis of raw material inventory levels against production trends
- Sources non-strategic commodities in a cost effective manner
- Prepares and evaluates quotations based on price, quality and delivery attributes
- Assists in disposal of excess and obsolete materials/products
- Stays up-to-date of new products, materials, market conditions and general industry trends as they relate to HPS
- Supplier Involvement
- Firm all new planned orders daily and review work flow
- Review material requirements
- Process and communicate order cancellations received from Sales
- Review planning actions daily
- Trouble shooting production reporting issues
- Assist with creating MIP packages when required
- Review and process material substitutions/HCN’s as required
- Review jobs for ending weekly and trouble shoot issues
- Plan and adjust production schedules where required to manage smooth level loading
- Work to posted lead time requirements based on capacity vs load
- Vendor On Time report
- Cost Savings report
- Commodity based reports, as required
- Report daily, weekly, and monthly on Ship on Time
- Update Production KPI boards
- Update Graph on HCN’s issued by engineering
- Communicate on any expedite or premium jobs to the production supervisors as required
- Unplanned Scrap Reporting
- Inventory, Substitution, and Scrap adjustments
- Daily Variance report, as required
- New systems, processes, initiative to improve metrics

**QUALIFICATIONS**
- Materials Management Diploma (or equivalent Degree)
- Diploma or Degree in Production Planning or related field (or equivalent)
- CPIM/CSCP Designation
- Good negotiation skills
- Problem solving, judgment and decision making skills
- Strong analytical and organizational skills
- Good communication skills (written and oral)
- Familiarity with MS Office
- Familiarity with ERP systems
- Strong communication skills, verbal & written
- Lean Manufacturing principles, Inventory management disciplines
- Problem solving, team building, Six Sigma, project management experience an asset
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office
- 1 to 2 years’ previous experience in a purchasing or production planning position
