Calgary, Canada Professional Custom Homes Ltd. Full time

**About us**: Professional Custom Homes is a fast-paced, opportunity-rich company that is now hiring for the position of Associate Project Manager. As the Associate Project Manager (APM) you will be reporting directly to the Project Manager, and working closely with the construction team (site supervisors, and trades people), the internal team (CEO, project coordinators, and general manager), as well as third party vendors (suppliers, etc.). The Associate Project Manager (Front-End) is commanding the most volatile stages of construction from **breaking ground to pre-board inspections**. Your mission is to provide intensive, high-level "on-site" oversight to the supervisory team, ensuring the structural and mechanical bones of the project are built with technical precision. You are the guardian of the **"On-Site Reality,"** tasked with bridge-building between the high-level Master Schedule and the dirt-level execution. You demand and provide the **raw, unvarnished truth** of site progress to ensure the project stays **On Spec, On Budget, and On Time**. **Core Job Responsibilities** **Tactical Oversight & "On-Site" Leadership** - **Direct Field Supervision**: Provide a "fresh set of eyes" on-site (60-70% of your time) to verify that Site Supervisors are executing according to the schedule and sprints. - **Reporting**: Establish a culture of radical transparency; you are responsible for reporting exactly where the project stands, without "sugar-coating" delays or structural errors. - **Supervisory Mentorship**: Train and elevate Site Supervisors to move beyond task-checking and into extreme ownership, ensuring they "bulldoze" roadblocks before they escalate. - **Forward-Thinking Planning**: Look 4-6 weeks ahead on the schedule to identify potential logístical clashes or technical hurdles before they reach the site. - **Pre-emptive Risk Management**: Evaluate project risks with a forward-looking approach to mitigate delays, rework, and cost escalation. **Technical Execution & Problem Solving** - **Plan Integrity**: Maintain a deep technical understanding of the architectural and structural sets; you must seek the optimal solution and then be the "Final Word" on-site for interpreting complex builds. - **Advanced Problem Solving**: When Site Supervisors hit a technical wall, you lead the "Optimal Solutioning" process—balancing structural requirements with cost-effectiveness. - **Critical Path Protection**: Manage the "Front-End Sprint," overseeing excavation, shoring, foundation, framing, and rough-ins to ensure a seamless hand-off to the Completion Team who will take the project from pre-board to completion. Be integral to the handoff process. **Coordination & Communication** - **PM Liaison**: Act as the primary filter for the Project Manager, delivering data-driven updates on site productivity and trade performance. - **Trade Orchestration**: Manage high-impact front-end subcontractors (Concrete, Steel, Framing, Mechanical) to ensure they are adhering to the "Build Plan" and quality standards. Allocate and manage resources, tools and materials to ensure they are available when needed throughout construction projects - **Stakeholder Alignment**: Facilitate clear communication between consultants (Engineers, Architects) and the field team to resolve RFIs (Requests for Information) instantly. - **Safety**: ensure all projects have the appropriate health, safety, and environmental standards in place and meet legislated requirements (OHS) and company policy. - **Skills Required**:_ The APM must take charge of the project, **driving site movement** by ensuring tasks are completed on time and by managing the workforce effectively. **Clear and open communication** with all trades, contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, and other stakeholders is critical. Construction sites are dynamic, and unexpected issues often arise. A competent APM needs to **identify problems quickly**—whether related to logistics, material delays, safety concerns, or workmanship—and **solve them on the spot** to avoid delays. This requires a practical, solution-oriented mindset and the ability to remain calm under pressure. **Small mistakes can lead to significant problems in construction**. A diligent APM must have a **keen eye for detail to inspect work quality**, ensure compliance with plans and specifications, and address potential issues before they escalate. Leading a construction team requires the ability to **build positive relationships, foster teamwork, and motivate workers to achieve their best**. A strong site supervisor knows how to create a productive environment by recognizing achievements and **addressing issues in a constructive way**. **What We Are Looking For** - Domain knowledge in multifamily construction management - A university degree or diploma in engineering, architecture, construction management or an equivalent combination of academic and practical experience - Google suite and Microsoft Office - 5+ years
