Durham Association for Family Resources and Support (DFR) is seeking 2 full-time **Child and Youth Workers.** You will be responsible for working with young families, on an individual basis, to provide support and enjoyment during the summer.

**About Us**

Durham Association for Family Resources and Support is a Durham-based, family support and resource organization that partners with families to imagine, plan for, and implement good lives in community, one person at a time, for and with their family member with disability. We consider the person in the context of their family (born or chosen) where their relationships most often ensure that this is where the voice of the person might best be heard, supported, and augmented.

The Family Support Team is currently seeking three Child and Youth Workers. The position focuses on providing meaningful summer experiences for children/youth and their families. The Child and Youth Worker will support one family at a time focusing on the child’s interests, talents, strengths, and gifts. Families along with DFR staff and the Child and Youth Worker will develop a plan for the summer that includes role development, leisure, recreation, and other duties that are deemed helpful to the family. The Child and Youth Worker will remain focused on creating opportunities for the child/youth that foster connection and potential friendship.
- Broad variety of leisure interests, music, dance, play, reading, outdoor recreation activities
- Demonstrate an understanding and appreciation of punctuality, listening, positive energy, importance of family and knowledge of the local community.
- Ability to work on a team.
- Provide a clear vulnerable sector check on the 1st day of employment.

**General Responsibilities**:

- Working with families on a custom, individual basis
- Participating in a flexible visit schedule with families
- Journaling the experience with families

**Application Process**
- Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period.
- Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment.
- Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
- The youth must be 15 years of age at the beginning of the employment period. The youth may be more than 30 years of age at the end of the employment period as long as the youth was 30 at the beginning of the employment period.
- International students are not eligible participants.
