Fibre to The Home Technician

Niagara Regional Broadband Network (NRBN) is the Region’s leading service provider of high-performance data, voice, and networking solutions.
The Fibre to the Home Technician (the ‘Technician’) will be responsible for installing, operating, and maintaining all services and aspects of the Fibre to the Home (FTTH) network including ONTs, gateway, cabling, and other FTTH equipment to NRBN, Industry, and regulatory standards.
The Technician will ensure the highest level of customer service and satisfaction is achieved. It is expected that all work functions are conducted in the safest manner possible. This work consists of, but is not limited to, installation of customer connections, moves, changes, and decommissions of services and other service-related work. The Technician will help establish policies and procedures, as well as perform duties that align with NRBN’s core fibre business.
**You Will Contribute to Our Team By**:
- Regularly performing installations, connections, and decommissions of all NRBN FTTH services
- Installing, testing, troubleshooting, and repairing as required to ensure services meet standards
- Conducting field site walks with customer/building representative(s) to determine construction requirements and develop/validate construction estimates
- Executing regular site visits to active construction sites to ensure that all of the work performed is done so in accordance with NRBN standards and all applicable safety legislation
- Assisting contractors in problem-solving to ensure deadline adherence
- Conducting NRBN fibre installation, service, and repair work from service demarcation to customer premise equipment in a safe and controlled manner
- Performing decommissions following NRBN procedures
- Operating and understanding the use of test equipment related to fibre services including spectrum analyzers, cable locaters, OTDRs and other test equipment as it pertains to the task
- Educating customers on the use of NRBN’s products and services
- Encouraging the customer to use NRBN as their service provider
- Building and fostering positive relationships with all customers
- Working alongside the Sales Team to establish new target areas and acquire customers
- Focusing on providing excellent customer service by using processes and procedures that are customer-oriented and seeking solutions to resolve service issues
- Other appropriate responsibilities relevant to the role and assigned by Management
**What Do you Bring to the Team?**
- A post-secondary diploma in Electronics Engineering Technician, or related discipline(s). _**Experience and formal training combined with demonstrated performance and ability may substitute for stipulated academic/experience requirement**_
- Fibre, Telecommunications or related technical training certification would be considered an asset
- Minimum three (3) years’ experience in a related position
- FTTH/FFTX or related experience in the telecommunications industry preferred
- Installation experience with interconnect company or fibre installation
- Experience with fibre terminations
- Mechanical aptitude required to complete installations, repairs, or decommissions
- General understanding of Fibre Telecommunications, Broadband, or Internet industries and technology
- Ability to read and understand all cable/conduit plans and locates
- Knowledge and commitment to following and encouraging safe work practices
- Strong interpersonal and customer service emphasis
- A demonstrated ability to communicate clearly (verbal and written) to various levels of comprehension and understanding
- Excellent organizational and analytical skills, the ability to independently manage multiple priorities, as well as take initiative in identifying and resolving problems

**Working Conditions**
- Indoor/outdoor office and jobsite environment with regular local vehicle travel (daily)
- Frequently required to lift up to 70lbs (approx. 32kg), as well as operate hand and power tools and test equipment
- Periodically work at heights or on ladders
- Rotational shift hours may be required to ensure proper support coverage for NRBN customers during evenings, weekends, and/or holidays
- Work in varying weather conditions to ensure that technical issues are responded to as required
- Required to work “On Call” on a rotating schedule
