**Our Parks & Environment, Air Quality and Climate Action Services Department is seeking an Air Quality Analyst who will support the delivery of air quality monitoring projects, acquisition and management of air quality data, reviews of air quality modelling and environmental assessments, and analysis of air quality and emissions data (including greenhouse gases) in development of air quality and climate policies and programs.**
**This role**:
- Develops and maintains air quality modelling skills and resources; assembles information and data related to air quality and emissions (including both health-harming air contaminants and greenhouse gases); assesses and interprets air quality and emissions data, prepares scenarios for use in airshed modelling; develops plans and programs and identifies priorities and methods to mitigate undesirable impacts of forecast air quality scenarios.
- Assists in developing strategies related to the Clean Air Plan to prevent or reduce unacceptable air quality conditions and emissions; provides technical advice and assists regional and departmental staff in summarizing technical findings and developing plans to reduce or control air pollution problems.
- Performs environmental assessment reviews and analyses of air quality impact studies of major air pollutant sources and proposed projects; provides guidance to external parties for preparation of dispersion modelling studies; conducts and/or directs consultants engaged in research work on a variety of air quality and emission control issues; prepares related reports and recommends policy and regulatory options for emissions control to senior staff.
- Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with a variety of internal and external contacts such as federal, provincial and other regional district staff, municipal planners and members of the business community; coordinates the department's activities with respect to meteorological aspects of interagency air pollution study programs; participates in or chairs committees, task forces or working groups involving the general public or other stakeholders.
- Keeps abreast of developments in emissions reduction and air quality management in other jurisdictions; maintains current knowledge of regional air quality issues and the status of various air pollution control initiatives and measures.
- Prepares, recommends, and communicates air quality advisories, bulletins, and related information; distributes advisory information to the public, elected officials, senior management, media, and health professionals; responds to media inquiries; prepares and delivers technical presentations related to the work performed.
- Performs related work as required.
**To be successful, you have**:
- University graduation with a science degree in meteorology, climatology, environmental science, environmental management, or similar, including or supplemented by courses in computer science and considerable related experience in applied meteorology and air pollution/research experience OR a Master of Science degree plus sound related applied meteorology and air pollution/research experience including computer experience OR an equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Thorough knowledge of physical and dynamic meteorology, meteorological modelling techniques, meteorological observation systems and techniques, as these relate to the work performed.
- Considerable knowledge of research, statistical and analytical principles, practices, procedures, methods and techniques as these relate to the work performed.
- Considerable knowledge of computer programming, modelling and operating methods, principles and practices related to the work performed.
- Considerable knowledge of the principles, practices and procedures of air quality planning as it relates to the work performed.
- Considerable knowledge of the applicable departmental rules, regulations, policies, procedures and objectives.
- Sound knowledge of air pollution control program design and administration as related to the work performed.
- Ability to perform detailed analytical and research tasks, prepare air quality and emission scenarios, and to develop strategies, programs and policy options to reduce or control air emissions and enhance air quality.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of internal and external contacts and to represent the District on a variety of committees, task forces and workshops.
- Ability to work with mínimal supervision.
- Driver's Licence for the Province of British Columbia.
