Community Wellness Worker

**Position Summary**:
**Job Duties & Responsibilities**:
- Liaise/share information with inside/outside health and social agencies.
- Provide programming with all age groups or work side by side.
- Proposal writing and budgeting for additional programs/services complementing community wellness work.
- Organize and facilitate community education, illness prevention, health promotion, and cultural awareness events.
- Event Management, including hosting community-wide events, supervising volunteers, and facilitating meetings.
- Engage in outreach activities such as health or wellness fairs.
- Schedule periodic case management sessions to address referrals and issues relating to the community support services area.
- Operates in accordance with and ensures compliance to the Wasauksing First Nation Administrative, Finance and program policies and procedures as may be updated and amended from time to time.
- Provide client-based activities relating to intimate partner violence area i.e. peer counseling, crisis intervention, referrals or assisting clients to access service
- Provide workshops, circles, presentations, traditional ceremonies and fitness/recreational to promote healing and wellness for all community members.
- Attend all Council Meetings, General Band Meetings, and other meetings as required, within and outside of the community.
- Attend appropriate workshops, seminars, and training sessions as required and as assigned to remain current and up-to-date on topics of concern to the work assignments for the position.
- Liaise with other First Nations, program agencies, and related organizations/institutions to network effectively for the benefit of the Wasauksing First Nation, Chief and Council and the community.
- Perform other duties as necessary.
- Adhere to all policies and procedures of Wasauksing First Nation and any other relevant policies and procedures from external agencies and partners
**Education & Experience**:
- Minimum Diploma in Social Work or related field
- A minimum of three years’ experience including supervision of staff or an equivalent combination of education and experience in a similar or related position with a proven demonstration of skills.
- Be familiar with the Indian Act, Treaties and Treaty Rights applicable to the First Nation, Native Law, Statutes and Regulation, Canada Labour Code, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Native Organizations and Government structures, and other laws, systems, and processes applicable in conducting the business of the First Nation. Understand and be fluent in the by-laws of Wasauksing First Nation.
- Ability to speak, read and understand Anishnaabemowin (Ojibway Language) is an asset
**Other Requirements**:
- Valid Driver's License and reliable personal vehicle
- Willing to work flexible hours as required, including evenings and weekends, and travel outside the community for training with the Anishinabek Nation or related services.
- This position requires the individual to work with various families and children. To protect children and vulnerable persons, Wasauksing First Nation requires the individual to provide a vulnerable sector. Or criminal record check
