Associate Editor

We are looking for an Associate Editor to support the Canadian Business publication. As an Associate Editor, you will be responsible for editing compelling content that engages and informs readers for the Canadian Business brand. You will help set the editorial direction, oversee the development of editorial calendars, commission stories to suitable writers, ensure deadlines are met, and maintain high standards of quality in all content published by Canadian Business.

Canadian Business operates under the leadership and supervision of Maclean's editorial team. SeniorMaclean’s editors will provide guidance on key projects and overall editorial direction. You will have the skills to work independently within an umbrella organization.

**Responsibilities**:

- Implement editorial strategy: You will work with the Maclean's editorial team to develop an editorial strategy that aligns with the brand’s target audience and brand values - as a sub-brand to Maclean’s
- Develop ideas, find writers, and maintain a steady flow of stories on the Canadian Business website
- Manage editorial calendar: You will oversee the development of an editorial calendar that maps out the content to be published in each issue and ensure that all deadlines are met.
- Maintain high standards of quality: You will be responsible for maintaining high standards of quality in all content published by the magazine, including the writing, editing, and design.
- Collaborate with other departments: You will work closely with the sales, marketing and audience teams to ensure that the brand is profitable and that all departments are aligned with the brand’s goals.
- Stay up-to-date with industry trends: You will stay up-to-date with industry trends and changes in the market to ensure that the brand remains relevant and competitive.
- Work with the Maclean’s editorial team to develop the publication’s social media strategy and develop the newsletter strategy

**Qualifications**:

- Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in magazine publishing, including editorial leadership experience.
- Strong writing and editing skills.
- Experience developing editorial calendars and managing deadlines.
- The confidence to speak in public (moderate a panel, introduce a speaker etc)
- WordPress skills
- Social media literacy.
- Understanding of marketing and sales principles.
- Strong leadership and management skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Passion for the magazine publishing industry and a deep understanding of its challenges and opportunities.
