**Description**

Owlkids Books is looking for a highly motivated and imaginative children’s book editor to join our team. If you are passionate about children’s books, have a deep knowledge of the children’s publishing industry and children’s literature across genres, and thrive in a fast-paced environment where creativity and collaboration are celebrated, we’d like to hear from you.

**Responsibilities**
- Developing and project managing titles through all stages, from conception to editing and art direction to production, on time and on budget
- Acting as a primary contact for creators and developing strong relationships with them in order to attract and nurture talent and generate publishing ideas
- Working closely with book designers on the visual development of projects
- Reviewing submissions, both original works and submissions from international publishers, and determining their marketplace potential, including researching curriculum and competition
- Staying current on trends in children’s publishing and identifying gaps/opportunities in the market
- Attending editorial meetings, industry events, and book fairs as needed

**What we’re looking for**
- An excellent collaborator with a positive attitude who can work both independently and as part of a team
- A minimum of 4-5 years relevant editorial experience, including substantive editing across genres (picture books, nonfiction, graphic novels, and fiction) and a well-developed sense of the children’s book market
- Strong developmental and line editing skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Organized, detail-oriented, and exceptional at managing multiple projects concurrently
- An innovative, big-picture thinker with excellent problem-solving, negotiation, and diplomacy skills
- A well-developed visual aesthetic with a strong sense of design, colour, and composition
