Elk Island Public Schools Central Services building is located in Sherwood Park, at 683 Wye Road. Providing services for the Division, Central Services is comprised of eight departments, in addition to the Board of Trustees. The departments include Education Executive, Communication Services, Facility Services, Student Transportation, Human Resources, Financial Services, Supports for Students and Information Technologies.
As a member of Elk Island Public Schools (EIPS) and Supports for Students (SFS) leadership team, the Director of SFS supervises, coordinators and assists in efficiently delivering various aspects of the organization's Supports for Students department. The Director of SFS plays a crucial role in the development and implementation of SFS goals, strategies, procedures and programs to support the Division’s 4 Year Education Plan. This includes ensuring compliance with Board Policy, Administrative Procedures and the Education Act.
**Key Activities**:
Provide leadership and support to schools related to the implementation of the expectations of the Ministerial Order, Teaching Quality Standards, Education Act and other legislative requirements.
Establish a strategic vision within the department, aligning with the priorities and goals set by the Board, while adhering to EIPS policies and procedures to provide support to schools and administration, ensuring successful outcomes.
Collaborate as a member of the SFS team to ensure the EIPS Education Plan Priorities, Goals and Outcomes are met.
Support the ongoing implementation of inclusive, collaborative, engaging and innovative learning environments.
Deliver coordinated, responsive and timely supports to schools that are focused on building capacity of educators.
Administrate budgets in a fiscally responsible manner.
Assess current and future educational needs of the organization.
Initiate and lead SFS practices and objectives that will ensure high-level functioning of a proactive and responsive SFS department.
Collaborate with the Superintendent, Associate Superintendents and other Directors to provide supports and services to the schools they oversee.
Oversee consultants, teachers and learning teams to ensure services directly support building the capacity of administrators, teachers, counsellors, and educational assistants to program for students and to support the implementation of the curriculum.
Allocate funds to schools received through EIPS budget process or grants.
Collaborate with community partners and other school divisions on best practices for teaching and learning.
Provide leadership to support schools in welcoming, caring, respectful, healthy and safe learning environments that respect diversity and foster a sense of belonging.
Work collaboratively with all departments and schools to plan, organize and facilitate professional learning days for teachers, support staff and leadership.
Provide support to schools in differentiation and support students with varying needs.
Provides oversight, guidance, support and mentorship to SFS staff, fostering a collaborative and inclusive work environment.
**Education and Experience**:
Bachelor's degree in Education. Master’s degree considered an asset.
Valid Alberta Permanent Teaching Certificate
Valid Alberta Leadership Certificate
3-5 years supervisory experience at a leadership level with prior successful school leadership experience
**Knowledge and Skills**:
Demonstrated ability to lead a team and collaborate with multiple stakeholders.
Superior knowledge of teaching and learning.
Extensive knowledge of students requiring specialized supports and services.
Ability to manage complexity under stressful situations and time constraints.
Ability to plan and align department work objectives to the Division’s goals and priorities.
Flexible and adaptable to changing learning and work environments.
Excellent communication, planning and analytical skills.
Professional, adaptive and engaging communication skills.
Experience in providing instructional leadership at a school or divisional level.
Demonstrated knowledge of adult learning processes, instructional design techniques and evaluation methodologies.
Demonstrated commitment to providing support to schools and central services.
