JOB TITLE: Base and Excavation Labourer

Grindstone Paving and Excavating Ltd has been providing asphalt paving services for private and commercial projects in Alberta since 2017. Our operations also include grading, gravelling, and snow removal services.

Grindstone Paving & Excavating is currently looking to hire an Base and Excavation Team member, with experience in Grading, Landscaping, Surveying, who will contribute to our team of dedicated personnel by bringing their experience and high-quality workmanship to every project.

**Responsibilities**
- The Base Prep Labour with work with the Site Foreman to ensure, but are not limited to, the following:

- Read and interpret blueprints, grades, stakes, measurements, and tape measure accurately.
- Calculate materials required on site.
- Consult Superintendent on any discrepancies before completion of additional work/quantities.
- Write Force accounts and obtain sign off from owner if available.
- Operate grading equipment proficiently including grader for grade control, skidsteer, rollers.
- Ensure equipment daily Maintenance and service e.g.(greasing) report repair needs.
- Identify and support continuous improvement.

**Qualifications**

The successful applicant will possess the following:

- Minimum 2 years’ experience of related Base-subgrade experience
- Knowledge of heavy equipment operations and site activities
- Proficient in use of all equipment and tools related to Base-subgrade work
- Knowledge of road construction methods, road construction materials, and industry requirements
- Provide direction and assist with various base/subgrade activities such as setting up grades, preparing area, cutting, raking, tamping, rolling, and general labour.
- Demonstrates ability to operate grading equipment with Grade Control and Mechanical knowledge
- Responsible for equipment checks, daily servicing/maintenance and informing mechanics of mechanical problems

Clearance on a pre-employment Drug & Alcohol test may also be required.

**Essential Duties and Responsibilities**:

- Signal operators of construction equipment to facilitate alignment and movement of materials.
- Assist in the placement, moving and dismantling of signs, barricades, cones and other traffic control devices.
- Perform other duties as assigned Qualification/Requirement.
- Ability to work in a variety of weather conditions including heat, cold, wind, rain, and dusty environments.
- Must be willing to travel and work away from home when required.
- Be willing to work nights and weekends when necessary.
- Be able to work overtime when required.
- Must have strong work ethic.
- Ability to work in a team setting.
- Communication skills: Ability to communicate with supervisors, co-workers, contractors and the general public in a courteous, professional manner at all times.
- Ensure a safe work environment in compliance with all safety policies and procedures.
- Willing to work out of town

Required Experience
- High School diploma or GED
- Must have a valid Class 5 driver’s license and at lease 2-3 year driving experience
- OH&S Certificate, WHMIS, CSTS certification is required
- Must be able to perform manual labour

**Additional Requirements**
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50lbs.
- Ability to work outside, on uneven ground, for long periods of time in different weather conditions
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and crouch for long periods of time\
- Travel may be required
- The position often requires overtime and can be seasonal in nature
