**Your Opportunity**:
Reporting to the Pathologists’ Assistant II, MLT II, and the Anatomical Pathology Supervisor, this position provides assistance to Pathologists in performing basic gross tissue examination. MLA II-Histoassistants perform a variety of duties including but not limited to collections and/or specimen processing, quality management, troubleshooting, and general support. All duties and responsibilities of the Medical Laboratory Assistant I plus the following: Prepare and perform gross surgical non-complex specimen dissection according to standard operating procedures (SOPs) up to and including level IV. Assists pathologists, pathology assistants, grossing techs when grossing complex specimens. Receives, prepares, processes and accessions surgical samples according to standard laboratory protocols. Operate, maintain and perform basic troubleshooting of all instruments, equipment and procedures. Maintains, cleans, decontaminates and organizes work areas based on LEAN Six Sigma principles and SOPs. Acts in a professional manner demonstrating effective and positive communication (verbal and written), interpersonal skills, team attitude and conflict resolution methods with co-workers, other laboratory personnel, and other internal and external clients. Participate in training new staff and students. Collaborates on the preparation of manuals and SOPs. Perform other related duties as required.
**Description**:
As a Laboratory Assistant II, you will perform advanced preanalytical or analytical techniques on specimen/samples or coordinate, prioritize, monitor, and assign duties of laboratory staff in your assigned area. You will resolve escalated issues, conduct quality control investigations and maintain technical and operational procedures. You will be responsible for ensuring laboratory staff maintain compliance with policies and procedures and will provide coaching and feedback to staff and students.

**Required Qualifications**:
Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Assistant program.
**Additional Required Qualifications**:
Formal grossing course required; within the last 5 years preferred. Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Moderate knowledge of anatomy and medical terminology. Heavy lifting up to 25lbs, capable of standing or walking for long periods. Able to work with and exposure to chemicals and gloves. Any Canadian equivalency to English 30 or 33 or CLBA score of Benchmark 8 completed within the last six months. Physical effort requiring manual dexterity is required (i.e. more than 75% of time on the job).
**Preferred Qualifications**:
Anatomic Pathology experience. Experience within the last 2 years preferred. Post secondary Anatomy and/or Pathophysiology courses. Basic LIS and Microsoft computer skills.
