The Office of Tax, Benefits and Local Finance (TBLF) develops the policy and legislative framework for Ontario's taxation and benefits systems; supports ministries to analyze and design income-testing; administers Ontario tax statutes, revenue programs and a number of benefit programs; maintains the integrity of Ontario's tax system; and manages the province's fiscal relationship with municipalities.

The Office of Tax, and Benefits and Local Finance delivers these priorities through four divisions:
Provincial Local Finance Division
Strategy, Stewardship and Program Policy Division
Tax Compliance and Benefits Division

What we do

The Compliance Branch, within the Tax Compliance and Benefits Division, is responsible for:
Providing strategic and operational leadership in a wide range of audit, review and general enforcement functions to ensure compliance with tax statutes and benefits administered by the Ministry of Finance
Tobacco investigations and inspections, raw leaf tobacco issues, investigating leads from various sources, and fuel inspections
Forensic accounting, forensic data recovery and inspections activities for various tax statutes
Optimizing voluntary compliance using risk assessment methods to strengthen audit and inspection enforcement activities
Overseeing the administrative support functions in the regional offices
Coordinating the financial planning and management tracking/reporting processes in support of the branch's business

What can I expect to do in this role?

**You will**:
plan, lead and conduct forensic data recovery investigations, and search and seizure actions
collect, evaluate and analyze data
assess, interpret and report findings
assist in the drafting of affidavits and execution of search warrants
provide testimony as a witness at trial and participate in the prosecution of violators
research legislation and case law
participate in joint forces investigations, and assist in the development of training programs

**PLEASE NOTE**: This position requires province-wide travel.

How do I qualify?

Technical Skills and Knowledge

You have strong knowledge of mobile communication devices, computer hardware, software, business EDP systems, local area networks and network server architecture
You have expert knowledge of computer forensic investigative processes/techniques/methodology, and forensic analysis software and tools normally gained through successful completion of an Information Technology degree or diploma (e.g., specializing in computer science) from a recognized university/college plus COMPTIA A+ certification, or equivalent work experience
You have knowledge of judicial process, rules of evidence, court procedures and related legislation

Analytical and Planning Skills

You have well-developed analytical and problem-solving skills to assess contraventions and to gather and analyze evidence
You have planning and organizational skills to develop investigative strategies
You have sound judgement and the ability to work under mínimal supervision
You have analytical skills and the ability to interpret tax legislation, related regulations, policies, procedures and practices

Communication Skills

You have communication and interpersonal skills to prepare investigative reports with detailed findings/recommendations and to draft strategies, policies, standards, templates and related technical materials

**Salary Range**: $1,498.23 - $1,935.44 Per Week
