**About the Position**
- Co-ordinates the daily direct care delivery activities of staff and ensures compliance with
Hospital and Unit standards, policies and procedures
- Acts as a clinical resource person and assists with patient care activities when clinical
support is needed
- Promotes and encourages communication between the patient, family and the health
care team
- Facilitates the advanced professional practice of staff
- Acts as a coach, mentor and role model
- Assists in unit orientation and the tracking of unit performance management indicators
**Administration/Education**
- Assist in the provision of an open environment in which all staff are encouraged to make
suggestions and implement changes to improve patient care, team communication and
unit effectiveness within pre-established boundaries
- Facilitates and supports the provision of clinical experience opportunities for health care
professionals
- Facilitates the attendance of staff members at hospital committee meetings and
continuing education opportunities
- Responsible for daily scheduling and assignment of staff
- Demonstrates an appreciation and awareness of the budget
- Ensures that adequate equipment and supplies are available in the unit, facilitates the
trial and selection of new equipment and supplies
- Adherence to all health and safety policies, procedures and provisions and the recognition
and reporting of unsafe hazards and work practices
**Continuous Quality Improvement**
- Facilitates continuous quality initiatives within the department including risk management
issues, incidents and customer service
- Maintains the quality board and promotes communication of strategic directions
**Qualifications**
- Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
- Continuing Education courses pertaining to unit practice and/or leadership development
relevant to unit setting and/or role
- Baccalaureate Degree or actively pursuing same
- Current BCLS
- Minimum 3 years recent unit experience preferred
- Demonstrated commitment to patient partnered care
- Demonstrated leadership, assessment, critical thinking, problem solving and communication
skills
- Demonstrated interpersonal and public relation skills, including conflict resolution skills
- Demonstrated understanding and commitment to our corporate Mission, Vision and Values,
Strategic Plan and Quality Improvement Plan.
- Demonstrated commitment to foster a workplace environment structured with respect,
cohesiveness, competence and efficiency
- Demonstrated ability to work independently
- Adult teaching experience preferred
- Excellent attendance record
**Hours of Work**: Monday-Friday.
