Mara currently has an opening for a **Scale-up Manager (Fermentation & Downstream)** in Dartmouth, NS

**The Position**:
**Key Responsibilities**:

- Manage pilot plant operations and projects, including scaling-up and scaling-down fermentation and downstream processes from bench scale to industrial scale.
- Lead the pilot plant team, and collaborate with the fermentation development team & other stakeholders to ensure batch and project deliverables are met.
- Responsible for the design, and execution of pilot fermentation and downstream processes, as well as identifying, troubleshooting, and resolving equipment, process, and facility issues.
- Organize and plan pilot plant schedules.
- Maintain the pilot plant and its utilities in proper working order.
- Ensure the pilot plant operations comply with safety requirements, cGMP, SOP, and manufacturing documentation.
- Grow and improve pilot plant capabilities, including budgeting and adherence.
- Interface with production sites and CMOs both for technology transfer and to solve problems.
- Take point on optimizing bioprocessing operations for improved production yields, chemical properties, cost efficiency, and product quality.
- Collaborate in the identification of new manufacturing equipment required for launching new products.

**Required Skills & Experience**:

- Post-secondary education in biochemical engineering or a related discipline.
- 5 years hands-on industry experience in scaling-up fermentation processes to pilot/commercial scale.
- 3 years knowledge and experience in cGMP operations and documentation.
- 2 years leadership experience.
- Knowledge of engineering design of fermentation plants.
- Strong root cause analysis skills.
- Proven ability scaling-up processes following quality standards and certifications.
- Experience interacting with CMOs.
