**Position**: Recreation Fitness Instructor (Gymnastics)
**Salary**: Pay Band 4 Non Union (part time)
**Work Term**: Various based on sessional program needs
**Reports to**: Team Leader - Recreation
**Purpose of Position**:
Reporting to the Team Leader - Recreation, the Recreation Fitness Instructor Level III position is responsible for the direct planning and implementation of safe, and enjoyable adult recreation fitness programs (fitness exercise classes such as Pilates, Yoga, Dance, Zumba, Kettlebell etc.) and/or youth fitness, gymnastics or dance programs.
**Qualifications & Experience**:

- Gymnastics Ontario Certificate (i.e. Gymnastics Foundations Certificate)
- Graduate of Secondary School, University or College
- Previous experience in a program leadership or instructor role is required
- Experience planning and implementation programs required.
- Must enjoy working with the public and understand their developmental needs.
- High Five Quality at Play Standards (Course PHCD-100) is an asset.
- Standard First Aid/CPR Level C is required prior to start of employment
- Satisfactory police clearance for vulnerable sector
- Able to work independently and as a team leader.

- Knowledge of implementing and creating fun, imaginative and safe activities
- Knowledge of healthy child development for youth programs
- Knowledge of safety standards

**Major Responsibilities**:

- Direct planning and implementation of the specific activity’s curriculum.
- Plan, organize and deliver high quality safe and stimulating fitness classes for all levels of participants.
- Keep current with industry trends and new class formats.
- Supervision of the class participants while responsible for the delivery of the weekly activities.
- Ensure the program’s best practices and High Five Quality at Play Standards are included in the weekly themed curriculum for youth programs.
- Maintain inventory of supplies and scheduling of activities in a timely manner.
- Maintain daily attendance sheets, incident reports, and sign in/out procedures,
- Organize and maintain a directory of necessary templates, samples of activities utilized throughout the session, listing of inventory and supplies, medical notifications, parent/leader/administration correspondence, and updated listing of activities distributed weekly to parents and website if applicable.
- Maintain strict protocol at all times in reference to safety standards and policies in place.
- Other duties as assigned.

**Decision Making & Judgement**:

- Work is performed under the general direction of the Team Leader - Recreation with access to municipal policies, procedures, bylaws and regulations.

**Leadership Level**:
Oversee the participants of the program.
**Interaction Level**:
Interpersonal skill to liaise with participants, parents, children and fellow staff members in a friendly and co-operative manner.
**Internal**:

- With Team Leader Recreation to ensure work responsibilities are met.
- With the Recreation Coordinator for any program requirements/needs
- With other staff to ensure provision of timely information and services.

External
- With participants or parents to provide information.

Physical Skill and Effort
- Bending, standing, walking, stretching, lifting up to 10 kgs

**Working Conditions**:
Environment
- Primarily works at the Atlas Tube Recreation Centre, the Libro Community Centre in Woodslee or the Comber Community Centre.
- Fitness activities may be both indoors and outdoors.

Control over Work Schedule
- Usually Monday through Sunday, between 7:30 am to 7:30 pm (hours vary)
- May be required to work weekends pending scheduled events
