Mineral Development Advisor

**SUMMARY**
The Mineral Development Advisor will assist Deer Lake Chief and Council in a) building community awareness of the potential benefits and impacts of mineral development in their homelands; b) gain an understanding of the community members’ positions regarding specific mineral development activities; c) administer mineral development permit requests by proponents; d) liaise with governments (Ontario and neighbouring First Nations) regarding mineral development activities and positions; and e) complete necessary training.

**JOB DUTIES**
- Complete training as required
- Work with the Chief and Council to develop positions and strategies regarding mineral development
- Coordinating and participating, as required, in any community meetings related to mineral exploration and development.
- Coordinating and/or conducting field engagement and site visits, when appropriate.
- Assisting the community by explaining technical issues with proposed projects, if necessary, or assisting with obtaining technical support, as needed.
- Assisting the community in understanding and/or assessing potential impacts of proposed projects, if any.
- Coordinating and providing a formal response, if necessary, to MINES on the potential adverse impacts of proposed activities on the community's Aboriginal or treaty rights (within any applicable regulated timelines).
- Proactively maintaining ongoing relationships between Deer Lake and proponents as necessary
- Support Deer Lake First Nation in reviewing and responding to Environmental Assessments related to mineral development projects.
- Assist Keewaytinook Okimakanak Treaties, Lands and Resources develop mineral development tools and information systems to assist in efficient and effective First Nation administration and policy development.
**REQUIREMENTS**
- Deer Lake members are preferred
- Knowledge and experience working with remote First Nations.
- Knowledge of mineral development concepts and current legislation.
- Understanding of the socio-ecological effects and impacts of mineral development in the traditional territories.
- Strategic thinking skills
- Project management and event coordination experience
- Cultural sensitivity.
- Effective communication skills with individuals at all levels of the organization.
- Superior time management skills, multitasking skills, and the ability to prioritize tasks with mínimal supervision.

**WORKING CONDITIONS**
- Travel will be required for both, mandatory training session and various engagement sessions
- Ability to attend and conduct presentations.
- Manual dexterity required to use desktop computer and peripherals.
- Lifting or moving up to 30lbs may be required.
- Working with community leadership, members, and KO partners.
