Day Camp Counsellor
Five Oaks is located in Paris, Ontario, on 116 acres of Carolinian forest, at the confluence of two waterways. Five Oaks’ engaging, active, and inclusive outdoor day camps are offered to children ages 5-14 during the months of July and August. Our skilled and enthusiastic staff lead adventures and explorations along the Grand River that foster a connection to the natural world and celebrate the unique gifts each camper brings to their experience.
We are currently looking for additional camp counsellors to join our team of outdoor enthusiasts.
Camp Counsellors will report to the Five Oaks Day Camp Director.
Dates: June 22
- August 28, 2026 (includes mandatory training from June 22
- June 22) Rate of Pay:$17.20-18.00/hour Hours of Work:This position is 36 hours during the week of June 22-26, 2026 (staff training), 34 hours June 29 to July 3rd, 2026 and August 4-7 2026, and 42.5 hours per week from July 6th to August 28, 2026. Shifts will be scheduled between 8:00 am and 5:30 pm Eligibility:
- Must be between 16 and 30 years of age by June 22, and legally entitled to work in Canada
- Must provide a current (within six months) Vulnerable Sector Check
- Must have current Standard First Aid and CPR-C (or plan to complete before the start date)
- Must be available to work full-time for the tenure of the position Responsibilities:
- Work closely and collaboratively with a team of counsellors, lifeguards, and senior staff to provide an enjoyable and safe experience for campers
- Directly supervise a group of children between the ages of 5-12; create a welcoming, playful, and inclusive environment for campers to engage fully in programming
- Facilitate age-appropriate activities, including traditional camp activities, sports, land-based learning, crafts, creek studies, and more
- Build rapport with each camper, manage group dynamics and camper behavior to ensure the physical and emotional safety of all campers
- Participate in all camp activities with energy and enthusiasm
- Celebrate the unique gifts each camper brings to their experience, accommodate special needs
- Act as a positive role model for children, youth, and fellow staff; model positive communication and effective listening skills
- Ensure that campers are treated equally, consistently, and fairly
- Adhere to camp policies, practices and procedures, and applicable legislation
- Attend and participate in meetings and training sessions
- Prepare and organize program equipment and supplies; ensure storage spaces are kept clean and organized
- Communicate with caregivers as needed; provide high-quality customer service
- Maintain positive working relationships with fellow staff
- Handle sensitive and confidential information with professionalism and discretion
- Complete reports as required (attendance, incident etc.)
- Accept and adopt constructive feedback

- Relevant work experience in a children’s camp or childcare setting
- Skills and experiences related to camp activities, including knowledge of nature/wildlife, story-telling, land-based learning, camping, orienteering, swimming, rafting, sports, music, arts and crafts, drama, STEM, etc.
