**JOB SUMMARY**:
Practices in accordance with the British Columbia College of Nursing Professionals (BCCNP) standards of professional practice and Code of Ethics for registered nurses/registered psychiatric nurses, as well as within a resident and family centred care model and the vision and values of New Vista Society. Provides leadership and guidance to designated staff and coordinates resident care activities in a defined area. Ensures a high standard of resident care by acting as a clinical resource for staff, supporting staff training and development, and provides leadership and support to the interdisciplinary team. Assists the Director of Care with performing administrative activities and ensuring optimal use of resident care resources. Consults, confers and collaborates with interdisciplinary team members, educational resources, and other health care professionals/providers to achieve excellence in resident and family centered care.

**DUTIES and RESPONSIBLITIES**:
1. Applies established criteria and prioritizes admissions, leads and facilitates actions related to resident moves, transfers, relocations by reviewing the admission/referral/intake information. Participates in the admission process and ensures admissions are completed in accordance with NVS clinical standards and policies.

2. Supervises nursing and clinical support staff and coordinates work of the clinical team overall on a day-to-day basis; observes work and coaches, supports, and corrects where necessary. Monitors resident acuity to ensure effective and quality care delivery. Monitors the quality of care and the safety of residents, assigns and adjusts work assignments, monitors and may authorize staff hours of work including overtime, vacations, leave requests, ensuring service levels and staffing requirements are met.

3. Supports quality resident centred care and excellence in practice by promoting inter-professional collaboration and team building and role models best clinical practices. Reviews audits and key performance indicators and in collaboration with the Director of Care, develops and implements quality improvement goals. Participates in Accreditation planning and quality reviews.

4. Initiates/leads/supports care conferences, medication reviews, clinical rounds and staff huddles for the purpose of optimal resident care management according to best practices; disseminates clinical information to nursing and clinical support staff and other members of the clinical team. Leads clinical staff meetings; and ensures action items from meetings are completed.

5. Identifies learning needs and requirements of staff and in collaboration with the Director of Care, plans the development of learning objectives; provides clinical support and guidance and evaluates the effectiveness of learning opportunities. Responsible for the ongoing performance management of care staff including evaluating clinical competencies, conducting performance reviews, and providing ongoing coaching/feedback with regularity.

6. Interviews, selects and hires staff. Assists the Director of Care by attending panel interviews, provides recommendations on the selection of new staff, provides feedback to the DOC on Nursing staff performance evaluations.

7. Responsible and accountable for optimal use of budgetary resources as assigned. Provides feedback regarding minor and capital equipment as requested. Responsible to maintain assigned product inventory.

8. Participates in, or leads the investigation of complaints by residents/families; follows up on complaints and implements corrective actions as appropriate.

9. Ensures compliance with all government policies, Acts and Regulations pertaining to Long Term Care operations. In collaboration with the Director of Care, implements goals from Fraser Health Long Term Care network.

10. Participates in the development and regular review of clinical policies and procedures based on best practices.

11. Actively promotes a culture of resident and staff safety by ensuring staff adhere to established safety policies, standards and procedures, including emergency procedures.

12. Performs other related duties as required.

**QUALIFICATIONS**:
**Education and Experience**
- Bachelor’s degree with current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse or Registered Psychiatric Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nursing Professionals (BCCNP).
- Three (3) years’ recent, related experience in the long term care including one (1) year’s administrative/supervisory experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

**Knowledge, Skills and Abilities**:

- Comprehensive knowledge of Nursing theory and practice within a resident/family centred model of care.
- Comprehensive knowledge of the BCCNP standards for nursing practice.
- Comprehensive knowledge of evidence based nursing practice related to long term care, and other health care disciplines and their role in long term care.
