Plains Road Child Care Inc. (PRCC) is a not-for-profit (parent run board of directors) child care centre located in a Toronto Catholic District School Board (TCDSB) in East York, Toronto. PRCC provides quality early learning and care programs to families with children from 0-12 years.

PRCC is currently hiring a supply/contract dedicated, committed and enthusiastic individual to fill our Kitchen/food Handler supply/contract position. We are catered by Real Food for Real Kids and this position is responsible for dividing up the food for each program and proper storage of food along with washing the dishes and meeting all Toronto Public Health and licensing guidelines.

**POSITIONS AVAILABLE**:
**Food Handler and Cleaner (proof of valid Food Handler Certificate required)**

**TERM: Supply/Contract position - current shift is 8:45 a.m. 4:45 p.m. Monday - Friday**

**QUALTIFICATIONS REQUIRED**:
**Current and valid Food Handler Certificate (this can be obtained within first week of hire but a current certificate is preferred).**

**Standard First Aid, CPR-C (adult, child infant) - required**

**Clear Vulnerable Sector Police Check required - paid for by the centre.**

**Immunization Verification** (as per Toronto Public Health recommended Immunization Requirements)

**DESCRIPTION** : This is a Casual/Supply and short contract position requiring the person to work in the kitchen preparing food for the children's lunch and snacks and a portion of the day performing light cleaning duties throughout the Centre and in the kitchen (disinfecting toys, equipment, carpet cleaning, etc). All food is catered and delivered on a daily basis, and the food handler will be responsible to receive, sort and portion bulk deliveries, prepare and deliver lunches/snacks to each classroom as per the daily schedules provided.

The food handler is responsible for the monitoring, safe handling and storage of foods; food inventory and orders; and disinfection and cleaning of the food servers and kitchen area as well as classroom areas and toys/equipment.

**Specific Responsibilities**:

- Monitoring, safe handling, sorting and storage of foods.
- Checking and documenting the temperatures of food when delivered and before it leaves the kitchen.
- Keep aware of all food allergies and ensure the list is updated regularly.
- Ensure all food labels are checked for allergic ingredients and expiry dates prior to serving it to the children.
- Set up lunch trolley, snack bins and deliver to all rooms.
- Posting any changes to the menu on the menu plan and notifying classrooms of any changes.
- Washing and sterilizing of dishes and utensils after meals.
- Maintaining a safe, clean and well ordered kitchen on a daily basis.
- Ensuring that food storage, handling and preparation are consistent at all times with Public Health Food Handling procedures and licensing standards.
- Advising the Director immediately of any problems with deliveries, temperatures, quality, etc.
- Ensure accurate daily records, are kept as required.
- Liaise with Public Health inspectors during visits (mínimally 3 times per year)
- Other duties as assigned.
