Food Security Team Lead
Full-time, 2 Year Term

It is the mission of Tungasuvvingat Inuit (TI) to provide Inuit-specific programs that contribute to the health and wellbeing of Inuit, and to encourage and support similar programs for Inuit across the country. With over 30 years of highly successful experience in crafting the design, development, and delivery of a wide range of effective, client-centered services, TI continues to deliver quality programs and services that directly benefit our growing urban Inuit population.
The Food Security Team Lead supports the weekly coordination, distribution, data collection and reporting for the Food Security program at Tungasuvvingat Inuit. The Food Security Program operates out of the Vanier location and supports Inuit living in the Ottawa area.

**Responsibilities**:

- Support Food Security Manager in overseeing the daily operations of the program including training new staff, scheduling work tasks, mentoring student interns, funder relations and reporting
- Purchase weekly food for food program
- Order food from our partner, The Ottawa Food Bank, for weekly delivery
- Unload the weekly donation from Ottawa Food Bank truck; and stock distribution center with the donated food
- Input service data into Link2Feed database weekly
- Support with the ordering, inventory, preparation and stocking of country food
- Coordinate the weekly delivery and receive the fresh food from Rutabaga Ranch in Summer/Fall months
- Prepare sign in forms for weekly food bank and collect and track data for reporting purposes
- Support with fundraising and promotion of the needs of the Food Security Program
- Follow TI’s policies and procedures
- At all times, working in a manner that preserves confidentiality and seeks to minimize risks for clients, employees and the organization
- Participate in meetings, training and professional development initiatives as required
- Performs other duties as assigned and related to the position

**Qualifications**:
Should have knowledge of Inuit culture, values, traditions, and IQ principles, ensuring that services are culturally relevant and respectful. Outstanding organizational skills, excellent interpersonal and communication skills and a commitment to a client-centered approach when working with Inuit. Familiarity with the socio-economic landscape as it pertains to Inuit. Strong leadership skills, ability to function effectively in a busy environment and in stressful situations and to work independently with a strong sense of focus. Familiarity with issues facing Inuit families. Ability to develop and deliver programming and to provide support to community in crisis; including de-escalation skills.
Completion of post-secondary degree or diploma in human services, social work or similar education or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
One to two years experience working in a social environment. Experience working with data collection and reporting and working in food security preferred.
Salary and Benefits
- Salary range is between $63,000 to $65,000

The Food Security Team Lead is located at 297 Savard Avenue, Ottawa (with possibility of change in office location due to internal decisions). The Food Security Team Lead works primarily in a busy distribution center involving outdoor distribution. This may involve various weather conditions such as rain, cold, heat or wind. The Food Security Team Lead also works in an office setting for administrative tasks. The role of Food Security Team Lead will involve lifting; up to 50 lbs and other physically demanding tasks such standing for long periods of time and stocking shelves.
