We are located in the City of Regina on Treaty 4 land, which is recognized as the traditional territory of the nhiyawak/Cree, Nahkaw/Saulteaux, Anihinpk, Dakota, Lakota, Nakoda, and the homeland of the Mtis Nation.
The Regina Open Door Society Inc. is seeking qualified individual to staff the full-time term position of Settlement Worker in Schools Case Worker commencing July 2, 2025 to March 31, 2027.
This position provides services to newcomer students and parents in schools in Regina and surrounding rural communities with a main focus on French speaking newcomer clients.
The Settlement Worker in Schools (SWIS) program is a shared partnership between the Regina Open Door Society (RODS), the Regina Public School Board (RPSB) Regina Catholic Schools, Prairie Valley School Division, Conseil des Ecoles Fransaskoises, and Immigration Refugee and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). It is an outreach program to help newcomer students and their families settle in their school and community.
**Desired qualifications/education**:
- Fluency in French Language
- 2 to 3 year's human services experience; A Post-Secondary education or related work

- counselling, cross-cultural, leadership, motivational, and organizational skills
- The successful applicant will also require a criminal record check, clean child abuse registry record, reliable vehicle, valid driver's license, and a clean driver abstract.

- Duties include but not limited to, the following:
- Providing services in a supportive and culturally-sensitive and linguistically-appropriate manner
- Assessing the assets and needs of immigrant students and provide appropriate referral;
- Providing group orientation and one-on-one information
- Work with RODS program to connect newcomer families with services in the community
- Supporting newcomer parents to establish links with their children's schools and get involved in school and community activities;
- In collaboration with schools creating opportunities and support for newcomer parents to participate in school activities, committees, councils and associations;
- Participating in the school reception and orientation process for newcomer students and their families
- Facilitating /delivering information sessions and workshops to school personnel with the aim of fostering understanding of the culture and the unique challenges of immigrant and refugee youth/children
- Providing orientation sessions on programs and services available in the school and community
- Helping children adjust to school culture and focus on learning while providing their parents with information and resources on settlement and immigration issues;
- Informing and orientating families and students about settlement-related issues
- Providing outreach services to new families
- Facilitating referrals and access to available resources in the community, social services, professional services and government programs
- Receive program-related referrals from schools and input the information into RODS
- database;
- Enabling families to advocate on their behalf, including for the educational needs of their children
- Competencies
- Excellent interpersonal, communication skills
- Ability to successfully perform in a multi-cultural and team environment.
- Work experience in a client-orientated position or related field targeting immigrant and refugee youth, children and families
- Knowledge of settlement-related issues facing immigrants and refugee youth, children and families
- Broad knowledge of local community resources that can assist newcomer youth, children and families with their settlement needs
- Solid paraprofessional counselling and group facilitation skills. Familiar in casework process, including intake procedures, referrals, case management, documentation and follow-ups.
- Understanding of Canada and Saskatchewan Privacy Policies and education system
- Strong time-management and organizational skills are essential
- Good verbal, written and presentation skills in English. Bi-Lingual or Multi-Lingual.
The hours of work are Monday to Friday from 8:15 AM to 3:45 PM. All positions at RODS require a clean criminal record/child abuse registry check. There is a cost-shared benefits package available to the employee with successful completion of a six-month probationary period. The annual salary for this position is $$43,646.85 ($24.87 per hour)
