We currently have a number of opportunities for Clinical Extern
- Nursing Students to join our Grand River Hospital Team.

**How Clinical Extern
- Nurses support our teams at Grand River Hospital**:
Grand River Hospital is seeking **nursing**or **undergraduate medical**, students to join the Enhanced Extern Program. The Clinical Externs are unregulated healthcare providers who will be working as part of interprofessional team and provide patient-centred care under the direct and/or indirect supervision of an identified Health Professional.

The Clinical Extern will practice in a manner consistent with the organizational Mission, Vision and Values in alignment with the outlined job description. The Clinical Externs will be hired on a contract part-time basis and the hours of work will be determined based on individual availability and unit needs which will include day/evening and weekend shifts. Duties include:

- Practicing under the direct and/or indirect supervision of the Healthcare Professional (e.g. RN, RPN, physician, etc.) in a manner consistent with GRH Mission, Vision, policies and procedures and in accordance with the CNO Practice Guideline for Working with Unregulated Care Providers
- Carrying out or assisting with activities of daily living with the goal of supporting and optimizing patient independence and functioning.

**At Grand River Hospital, our Clinical Extern
- Nurses will bring the following**:

- BScN or BN program: any year
- PN program: any year
- CNO approved program - EPIEN: any year
- MD program: Final year; Recent Canadian Medical Graduates awaiting start of residency

** Applicants holding a current certificate of competence in their regulated health profession are not eligible for the clinical extern program **
