**New employees must provide documentation of a 2-step TB screening, as well as proof of immunity to measles, mumps, rubella, varicella (chickenpox), and Covid-19 prior to their start date at St. Mary’s General Hospital. **Staff will require clearance from Employee Health and Wellness before they are able to begin any position within SMGH.

**Position Summary**:
Clinical Externs (Physiotherapy) are physiotherapy students in any year of study of a training program accredited by Physiotherapy Education Accreditation Canada. Physiotherapy Externs are unregulated healthcare providers and will work as part of an inter-professional team under supervision of regulated health care providers. This is a paid position as part of the Ontario Government's Enhanced Externship Program.

**Position Responsibilities**:

- Practices under the direct and/or indirect supervision of the professional assigned to them on the unit and in a manner consistent with organizational policies and professional standards
- Works with unit professionals to ensure knowledge, skills and judgment required to perform duties are met
- Provides assistance with lifting, turning, transferring, transporting, and ambulating as per SMGH policy
- Assists with comfort measures and patient safety by ensuring the environment is clean and tidy and free of hazards
- Requests assistance with assigned duties whenever in need
- Participate actively as a team member
- Required to complete other duties as assigned. This may include vitals, falls risk assessment, respiratory assessment/teaching, and potential delegated tasks for externs in their final year of study

**Position Requirements**:

- **Current certificate in Basic Cardiac Life Support required (Annual renewal required)**:

- **Demonstrated knowledge of infection prevention and control practices**:

- **Comprehensive clinical skills and competencies**:

- **Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills**:

- **Proven problem solving, decision making, critical thinking, organizational and time management skills**:

- **Ability to work as an effective member of an inter-professional team**
