**Position Status**
**This is a Permanent Full-time position.**
**Scope of the Position**
Reporting directly to the Executive Vice President Human Resources (EVP HR) and having the necessary latitude and autonomy to make decisions, the Health, Safety and Environmental Manager (HS&E) leads and collaborates with the EVP HR, Team Members, and stakeholders to identify, develop, and maintain the Nch’kaý Health, Safety and Environmental Program. The (HS&E) Manager is accountable for ensuring that all due diligence requirements have been considered and completed and abide by Nch’kaý policy. They will also ensure that all operations reflect the highest corporate social responsibility standards and land stewardship aligned with Squamish Nation values.
This position plays a vital role as a member of the Management Team by demonstrating leadership in building and maintaining a culture of safety through the development, mentorship, and monitoring of our health & safety, and environment programs.
Through a respectful, constructive, and energetic style, guided by corporate objectives, the (HS&E) Manager provides the vision, leadership, and management necessary to ensure that they foster, build, and maintain relationships with external partners and all stakeholders.
**Team Leadership**
- Leads the HS&E team working together to provide consistent support.
- Provides leadership, supervision, and motivation to Team Members in achieving personal and organizational goals.
- Creates and influences culture across Nch’kaý through a hands-on approach to living our values.
- Ensures Team Members can pursue and receive appropriate professional development.
- Provides feedback to Team Members through ongoing coaching and annual performance reviews.
- Assesses and determines competencies and skill sets required for the team to achieve objectives.
- Partners with Human Resources in selecting, retaining, and developing Team Members, including termination where necessary.
**Duties, Responsibilities, Authority and Accountabilities (includes cellphone program)**
- Assume lead role in establishing and maintaining safety systems in all operations.
- Drives our health and safety, quality, and environmental initiatives that align to and support achievement of our corporate goals and objectives to continually improve performance.
- Keep current on all safety legislation and regulations relevant to industry and evaluate policies and procedures to ensure compliance with Occupational Health and Safety program and government legislation and regulation.
- Oversight and corporate responsibility for all HS&E and security systems and processes.
- Ensures infrastructure is in place (systems, processes, resources) for the delivery of first-in-class HS&E programs.
- Oversees and reviews incident investigations and ensures protocols are in place to mitigate against recurrence.
- Acts as an advocate for HS&E best practices within all business units. Promotes awareness through the successful delivery of ongoing education and targeted training, and development programs.
- Maintains and implements policies and effective procedures.
- Lead role in Safe Work Procedures, Methodologies, and Standard Operating Procedure creation; chairs the Health & Safety Committee and is responsible for the execution of subsequent activities.
- Represents the organization on various Industry and Stakeholder Committees and supports the advancement of collective initiatives.
- Field safety attendance - minimum 25% of the time.
- Ensure site safety inspections are conducted and documented to ensure all safety procedures are being followed and all regulations are being met
- Plan and implement training programs for site workers, managers, and company management to comply with regulations and industry best practices
- Support and train job site supervision in conducting Toolbox Talks, Job Hazard Assessments and Daily Inspections
- Provide recommendations with respect to job site hazards, environmental assessments, employee training, safe equipment operation, and safe material utilization
- Ensure WHMIS procedures are monitored and MSDS are current and available on site
- Carry out all investigations of accidents and incidents and near miss incidents
- Conduct periodic safety inspections on job sites to ensure safety procedures are in place, and are being effectively implemented by all workers
- Manage injured employee files to facilitate early return to full duty work responsibilities or provide productive light duty transitional work (Return to Work Program)
- Maintain Certifications

**Position Requirements**
- Designation - Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) or similar.
- Undergraduate degree in a related field.
