Documentation and reporting are a key part of this role. You will utilize the Perspective system to prepare detailed, written documentation of all security and life safety incidents. This position requires a high degree of critical thinking, sound judgement, discretion, and de-escalation techniques. Sound working knowledge of legislation, policy, and legal authorities is a necessary skill for the PSO. **Required Qualifications**:
High School diploma or equivalent. Active (or eligible) for appointment as a Community Peace Officer with enforcement duties involving the public, as identified by the Province of Alberta/Solicitor General. Successful completion of Alberta Health Services or Alberta Justice and Solicitor General Community Peace Officer Induction Training Program (6 weeks program). Valid Class 5 (non-GDL) Driver's Licence. Valid Physical Abilities Requirement Evaluation (P.A.R.E.) completed under 4:45 minute, within 6 months prior to commencing employment.
**Additional Required Qualifications**:
Legally entitled to work in Canada. Alberta class 5 operator’s license, or a provincial equivalent, with no more than four demerits and no charges or pending suspensions. Be eligible for a community peace officer appointment. An extensive security background check is conducted, including a 10-year history review. Ability to work a 24-hour shift rotation.
**Preferred Qualifications**:
Experience in uniformed public servant roles or emergency services (military, forestry, park ranger, corrections, peace officer). Minimum two years of related work experience OR a related degree or diploma in Criminology, Criminal Justice, Sociology, or Psychology. Community involvement or volunteering. Knowledge of or training in harm reduction, anti-racism and Indigenous awareness.
