Material Handler

BWXT Precision Manufacturing Inc. (BWXT PMI) supplies nuclear-grade materials and precision machined components for CANDU® nuclear power utilities around the globe. **JOB PURPOSE**:
A Material Handler performs duties in shipping, receiving, inventory control and cycle counting programs to support production schedules and customer requirements.

**JOB STRUCTURE & COMMUNICATIONS**:
The Material Handler reports to the Production Control Supervisor and has no direct reports.

**ACCOUNTABILITIES**:

- Use material handling equipment to carefully move components manufactured from a variety of stainless steel and nickel alloys to their next operation.
- Maintains inventory by identifying, labeling, and placing materials and supplies in stock, recording location of inventory.
- Locates materials and supplies by pulling and verifying materials and supplies listed on production orders.
- Maintains in-process inventory at work centers by delivering and opening materials and supplies.
- Documents materials and supplies disposition by recording units delivered and location of units.
- Prepares finished stock for shipment by identifying, pulling, packing, crating, loading, and securing product.
- Documents product shipment by recording units shipped.
- Maintains material-handling equipment by completing pre-use inspections; making operator repairs.
- Empty chip conveyors and bins.

**Administration**:

- Follow all company policies and health and safety procedures.
- Promote various safety initiatives and demonstrates a “safety first” mindset.
- Wears appropriate personal protective equipment at all times when required
- Report any personal workplace injuries to direct supervisor immediately.
- Report safety issues to direct supervisor as soon as possible.
- Maintains an acceptable level of performance by following established policies and procedures and participating in continuous improvement efforts by supporting and implementing new ideas.
- Sets a positive example by maintaining a respective attitude, cooperating with co-workers, management, and internal and external customers.
- Be a productive team member and help to meet established departmental and Company goals.
- Report to work for your regularly scheduled shifts on time and ready to work.
- Effectively gives and receives feedback and willingly asks questions and seeks direction when needed.
- May work any and all shifts/days as required.
- Willingly accepts responsibility of sharing skills and knowledge with other employees.
- Perform all other duties as may be assigned from time to time.

**KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE**:

- High school diploma or equivalent education required.
- 2 years’ experience working as a material handler in a manufacturing environment.
- Two years of experience carefully handling precision machined components using motorized carts, forklifts, and overhead cranes.
- Attention to detail and organization.
- Demonstrable ability as an adaptable team player with strong communication and problem-solving abilities.
- Strong ability to work independently to complete assignments promptly while maintaining the high standards required in our industry. Certified forklift and crane training an asset.
