Red Seal Journeyman Carpenter

**Summary**

The Red Seal/Journeymen Carpenter under the direction of the Superintendent or Project Manager is responsible for building, restoring and/or installing of structural woodwork and related materials. This position requires knowledge of the heavy & commercial construction industry. Specifically the practices, procedures, techniques, tools and equipment, materials, specifications, quality control, cost control, and safety associated with these industries. The Red Seal/Journeymen Carpenter must be proficient at the following tasks: trim work, layout for stairs and common rafters, reading blueprints, and must possess mathematical and analytical skills necessary to do material estimates. Modular building experience is an asset. This individual will be a champion of TechCanada values, strategy and ensure that internal policy, and procedures are executed. Additional duties will be assigned as necessary.

**Job Duties**
- Assist with the creation of blueprints and manufacturing specifications.
- Observe and comply with all health and safety regulations and ensures any apprentices under your direction comply.
- Lay building foundations.
- Confirm trueness of structures, with a plumb bob and level.
- Framing including doors and windows.
- Operate and maintain carpentry tools and equipment.
- Keep a daily log of tasks.
- Respect and respond to direction given.
- Prepare estimates for work orders and request materials required to complete the job.
- Perform Drywall boarding and interior floor finishes work.
- Ensure an adequate supply of material is available for preventative maintenance program.
- Craning of modular buildings
- Handle and transport job materials to the work area as needed.
- Guide and teach apprentices ensuring they are preforming task correctly.
- Perform other related duties, including minor duties of other trades where certification is not required and the work does not exceed own limitations.
- Understand and comply with all company policies and procedures.
- Other duties as required.

**Requirements**:

- Current Red Seal/Journeyman Carpenter's Certificate.
- 5-7 years of experience as a Carpenter.
- 5-7 years of experience working in residential/commercial construction.
- Knowledge of safe operation of carpentry tools.
- Knowledge of workplace safety and safe lifting and handling procedures.
- Ability to operate required equipment in a safe and responsible manner.
- Time management skills.
- Ability to read building specifications, blueprints and as-builds.
- Ability to draw appropriate sketches to communicate details to team members, and others.
- Mathematical skills and analytical skills necessary to do material and labour estimates.
- Receptive to change - can adapt to changing circumstances.
- Makes suggestions for improvement.
- Proactive in ensuring job knowledge is current.

- Travel as required to cover assigned Region/Sub-region and is accessible during off hours, weekends and holidays

**Work Conditions**
- Job requires ability to perform tasks on all areas and aspects of construction project.
- Requires ability to climb ladders for heights of up to 60 feet, and crawl for distances of 50 feet.
- Job requires ability to work with tools, lumber and materials.
- Ability to lift and manipulate objects of up to 80 lbs for 50 feet is required.
- Use of Personal Protective Equipment will be required (e.g. hard-hat, safety boots, etc.).
- Hazards associated with the construction industry.

**Job Types**: Full-time, Permanent

**Salary**: $36.00-$42.00 per hour

**Education**:

- Secondary School (preferred)

**Experience**:

- Red Seal Journeyman Carpenter: 7 years (preferred)
- Residential Carpentry: 7 years (preferred)
- Commercial Carpentry: 2 years (preferred)
- Industrial Carpentry: 2 years (preferred)

Licence/Certification:

- Class 5 Drivers Licence (preferred)

Willingness to travel:

- 50% (preferred)
