Support Worker

Job DescriptionReporting to the Manager of transition Houses, the Support Worker provides support to women who have experienced intimate partner violence and who are living in a second-stage transition house.
**What you’ll be doing**:
- Providing the following to the residents of the second stage program:
- Orientation at move-in
- Emotional Support
- Safety Planning
- Assistance to navigate the family justice system, including court accompaniment
- Advocacy with government and community agencies
- Information about intimate partner violence
- Referrals to government and community agencies
- Responding to crisis calls
- Responding to emergencies during shift
- Preparing the suites for new program participants; Replenishing and updating inventory and minor cleaning
- Organizing and facilitating resident events and celebrations including, shopping, cooking and clean up
- Managing donations
- Receiving, picking up and fairly distributing donations
- Maintaining the donation room
- Fairly distributing donations
- Keeping accurate records, files and statistical information as per practice/policy.
- Other duties as required.
**What you’ll need**:
- A minimum of 2 years of post-secondary education in a related field and/or 1 year of related experience
- Experience working with women and non-binary people who have experienced intimate partner violence
- A feminist understanding of the root causes of violence by intimate partners
- An understanding of trauma-informed practice
- An understanding of the family justice system
- Excellent communication skills
- Good conflict resolution and de-escalation skills
- Appropriate boundaries
- Able to work well as part of a team, and also to work well independently
- Knowledge of resources in Metro Vancouver would be an asset
- Experience with/willingness to learn to use: Microsoft Word, Microsoft Teams, SharePoint, ADP, Concur, Safety Line and Relias.
- A valid clear criminal record check (including working with vulnerable populations) is required.
- The YWCA Metro Vancouver’s COVID-19 vaccination policy is currently suspended and as a result, vaccination from COVID-19 is not required at this time. However, should circumstances change and the YWCA deem it necessary to reintroduce such a policy, you may be required to provide proof of vaccination against COVID-19 in order to be eligible to continue performing your duties.
