**R&D Lab Assistant**

New Directions Aromatics Inc. is a leading wholesale supplier with over 800 products and has become a preferred supplier of many leading brand-name manufacturers, as well as start-up companies.

We are looking for a Research and Development Lab Assistant who has strong communication skills and will perform various tasks to support the laboratory technical staff, including Collecting retained samples, Preparation of samples for testing and the maintenance of quality assurance records

**Core Duties & Responsibilities**:

- Conduct microbial enumeration and identification tests on raw materials, packaging components, and intermediate and finished products and maintain records.
- Follow laboratory manual policies, procedures, and instructions.
- Media preparation, culture maintenance, basic knowledge of fermentation, culture and media waste disposal.
- Assist in the collection of daily production samples, testing, preparing and maintaining accurate laboratory records.
- Perform Routine laboratory maintenance, ability to follow and develop SOPs, create and/or review protocols, technical reports, data collection sheets, logbooks, raw data etc.
- Receive and process samples to identify suitability
- Prepare samples for testing using various types of laboratory equipment
- Prepare and maintain accurate laboratory records
- Label specimens accurately and distribute them to the appropriate department
- Perform quality control as directed by the regulatory coordinator
- Clean and maintain work area and all lab equipment and supplies
- Updates and retain logs and maintain records.
- Other duties as assigned by the manager.

**Required Skills and Abilities**:

- Critical thinking and excellent problem-solving skills.
- Must have a proactive working style with a strong sense of ownership and urgency.
- Must display a positive, friendly attitude with a genuine interest in contributing within a team-driven environment
- Ability to organize and prioritize work for timely completion
- Effective communication skills, both verbally and in writing
- Able and willing to maintain a strict level of confidentiality regarding laboratory results and records
- Proficient in all functions of Microsoft Office Suite.

**Education and Qualifications**:

- College diploma/degree in microbiology or equivalent discipline.
- Basic knowledge of aseptic techniques and media preparation and culture maintenance.
- Minimum 1 year of R&D lab assistant experience is required.
- Knowledge of current USP and/or ISO microbiology test procedures.
- Experience in cosmetics is an asset.
