Construction Safety Officer

The Construction Safety Officer (CSO) for our **Roofing Contracting Company** will assist the H&S Manager in promoting and monitoring Mack Kirk’s H&S Program. This role is **worksite-based**in Lower Mainland, British Columbia.
- The CSO will conduct regular, thorough inspections of company worksites to help ensure compliance, address any site issues, and implement site-based solutions in alignment with Mack Kirk’s H&S Program and WorkSafe BC safety standards.
- The CSO will work directly with Site Foremen, Site Superintendents, relevant trades, subcontractors, and all employees.
**Specific Duties, Functions and Responsibilities**
**Core Duties**
- Report to, receives direction from H&S Manager, or delegate
- Promote Mack Kirk H&S program, legislation and company’s safety rules
- Submit CSO Activity Report to H&S Manager
- Assist in review of SiteMax form revision
- Be familiar and knowledgeable with all WorkSafe BC regulations
**Site Duties**
- Assist Foremen and Operators with SiteMax electronic forms
- Conduct site inspections, documentation and update Corrective Action Register as required
- Ensure sites have required PPE and any safety-related equipment
- Assist Foremen and staff with SiteMax electronic safety forms: Site Safety Plans, Fall Protection Plans (and drawings), ensure forms are filled out accurately, in sufficient detail
- Liaise with Foremen daily on health and safety related matters and educate and guide them on safety best practices
- Ensure incident reports are completed promptly and filed
- Address any site issues and implement site-based solutions in alignment with Mack Kirk’s H&S Program and WorkSafe BC safety standards
- Assist H&S Manager with COR audits and helps employees on sites prepare for COR audits
- Coordinate in emergency response and mock-rescue drills
- Collect any documentation, certifications or paperwork as requested by H&S Manager
- Perform additional duties and tasks as assigned by H&S Manager or delegate
- Participate in JHSC Committee Meetings
- Inspect Fleet vehicles on sites: fire extinguishers, first aid kits, and Safety Documentation/QR

**Work skills - CSO must possess advanced communication skills**
- Ability to execute job duties and take direction with mínimal supervision
- Strong communication, time management, organizational and interpersonal skills
- Excellent knowledge of WorkSafe BC regulations, standards and policies
- Proficient with computer programs such as Word, Excel and MS Outlook
- Proactive in identifying hazards and implementing corrective measures to ensure Company’s Health and Safety standards are met
- Demonstrated ability to manage detailed and accurate health and safety records

**Education and Experience**
**Essential**
- NCSO required
- 2-5 years of experience
- Valid driver’s license
- Ability to use/learn business technology
**Preferred**
- Bilingual fluency
**Required Training**
- WHMIS
- Fall Protection (End User)
**Physical Requirements**
- Must be physically and mentally fit and able to carry and lift weights to a minimum 50 lbs.
- An additional physical requirement for this job is the ability to access and work at elevations.
Pay: $35.00-$40.00 per hour
